Members of the Queensland Teachers' Union walked off the job for the second time this year following the failure of the LNP government to make an offer to teachers that addresses core elements of their claim. We stand in solidarity with their campaign for respect and recognition.

There’s a lot on the line in 2025!

The Queensland Council of Unions general secretary, Jacqueline King, told The Australian the state had to find money for "fair and decent" pay rises and commit to a central wages policy for all public sector workers.

"The alternative is that Queenslanders will face a year of rolling industrial and strike action across hospitals, schools, police and other services which both Victoria and NSW experienced in 2024 to secure wage rises," she said.

"We need to stop the churn of key staff going interstate and to the private sector and to ensure the government delivers on providing quality services to all Queenslanders, no matter where they live."

The big business lobby is pushing Peter Dutton to scrap the modern award system and redefine small business as up to 50 employees (an increase from 15).

The changes proposed would equal a pay cut and less secure work for millions of Australians.

Peter Dutton hasn’t responded to the demands, but make no mistake, if elected Dutton and the Liberals will go after your workplace rights.

A Same Job Same Pay application covering dozens of labour hire workers has been made at one of Peabody’s largest Queensland operations.

Coppabella Mine’s labour hire workers, employed by Workpac and Protech GPS, perform production roles alongside direct Peabody workers for up to $20,000 a year less. A successful application would lift the labour hire workers pay to the level of Peabody employees – in some cases as much as $380 a week.

Orders from the Fair Work Commission come into effect on 1 November. If the order has not been made by then, it will come into effect on the date the order is issued.
