SAWTELL GIRL GUIDES turn 70 🥳

Guiding began in Sawtell in 1956 with Mrs Batterham being the Guider. The second guide company was formed in 1980 with Mrs Harding as leader.

The Sawtell Girl Guide movement went into recess in 1968, then restarted with Mrs Walsh, the local policeman’s wife, as leader.

The success of the guide movement in Sawtell was a tribute to the dedicated efforts of many including four early District Commissioners- the first, Vi Adams in 1963, followed by Pam Worland, Patricia Jeff & Annette Saunders.

In 1997 the current Guide Hall was built in Minorie Drive. Pam Worland was District Commissioner.

Yesterday Sawtell Girl Guides reached a mile stone. 70 years of since we first opened. This to is a special day for all Girl Guides celebrating Thinking Day 2026, 100 years of Girl Guides in NSW.

Sawtell Girl Guides now have open vacancies for Primary school girls. Come and try for 2 weeks FREE. We start back on Wednesday 4th February at 4 pm Minorie Drive Toormina. We do all sorts of fun things that includes kayaking, outdoor cooking, camping, games, craft, talking on 2 way radios to Guides and Scouts around the world. What else does your daughter/s want to do? Archery, Treetops, fishing, campfires, learning about other countries that have Girl Guides. What does their imagination want to do? come along and find out. This is just some of what we can do.
