Bonjour! Oooo la la! Dress ups, Pancakes, pavlovas, croissants with ham & cheese for 🇫🇷 Bastille Day 🇫🇷 this week at Border Sonic. Another fun filled day and special thank you to Marion for inspiration, and to the volunteers who provided fine food to feast on. It’s easy to see that everyone has a little French in them.

From little things big thing grow! And that was my thought as the Border Sonic Choir performed their inaugural concert yesterday at Thurgoona Community Centre. The Community Hall was filled to capacity with just over 80 people singing along to familiar songs, stomping their feet and clapping to the beat of ‘We will Rock You’. Congratulations Choir, volunteers who made it all happen and to Libby Clarke and Marion Vile for their incredible inspiration. Heartfelt thanks to those who attended and supported our Choir members.

Most people have never heard of aphasia.That's a problem. 💙
When no one knows what aphasia is —people with aphasia face TWO challenges.
1️⃣ The aphasia itself.
2️⃣ A world that doesn't understand them.
So what IS aphasia?
Aphasia is a communication impairment.
It can affect speaking, understanding, reading, and writing.
It is caused by damage to the brain.
Most often from stroke or brain injury.
Here is the most important thing to know:
🧠 Aphasia does NOT affect intelligence.The thoughts are there.
The words are the challenge.
When the people around someone with aphasia don't know this — they may speak too fast.
They may walk away. They may assume the person doesn't understand.
Awareness changes everything.

Border SONIC is a choir based in Albury Wodonga for people with stroke, Parkinson's Disease and other acquired neurological conditions.

The choir was formed over five years ago, and we invite you to celebrate with us!

Border SONIC background
After rehabilitation has finished, many stroke survivors have difficulty returning to their previous lifestyle due to impairments such as aphasia which robs a person of speech, reading and writing abilities. Aphasia has a very negative impact on quality of life, and people can become socially isolated. There is a significant need for stroke survivors to find activities to facilitate social connection. People with Parkinson’s Disease can experience changes in their voice volume and strength which also impacts on social communication.
We have over 25 members including carers and volunteers. Singing is on Tuesdays from 2 - 3pm followed by a very rowdy afternoon tea!
