What a glorious morning filled with activation and socialisation. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us to help celebrate our 5th Anniversary. It was great to see so many different running event tops and all your smiling faces as we took a moment to reflect on the last five fantastic years, and treated to a poem that captured all the things you love about Homestead parkrun.

In total we had 135 people walk, jog or run, including Bradley Lewis, Erin Collins, Alissa Schwabe, Elliot Reeves, Jolomi F, and Katherine Thompson who all completed their first ever parkrun. That’s so exciting, thanks for choosing Homestead. Well done also to the 12 people who recorded a personal best time.

Shoutout also to Kathryn Hallifax who celebrated a parkrun milestone today in completing her 25th parkrun (all at Homestead), and Lukas Martens who finished his ‘Run the World’ virtual lap of New Zealand.

Homestead parkrun Fun Facts

1. The City of Gosnells Mayor, Terresa Lynes has volunteered and loves a special occasion, always happy to dress up. Terresa is a big supporter of parkrun and major advocate for the park upgrades, shelter and new start/finish arch.

2. The current course is not the original course. The original course was an out and back to the train line but was forced to change early days due to the extension of the Thornlie train line track works.

3. Backyard Ultra World Record Holder, Phil Gore was first finisher at the Launch Event, finishing in 17:13, and held the course record for 11 Weeks.

4. Homestead proudly has a slower average time (37:36) than the Australian parkrun average (33:25) and love welcoming and encouraging walkers.

5. Caroline van der Mey was the very first Western Australian to reach 500 parkruns and she celebrated the milestone at Homestead, attracting the biggest turnout outside the Launch Event with 171 participants.

6. The Event Director, Rodney Glossop is also a Volunteer parkrun Ambassador who supports other parkruns create a positive volunteer culture and with any challenges. He has also helped launch Esperance Foreshore, Ridley Place Foreshore (Australind), Murdoch University, and University of Western Australia.

7. Homestead is known and loved for it’s birdlife, especially ducklings. Kookaburras and Black Cockatoos are regularly seen in the surrounding bushlands, and there has even been the occasional sighting of Tawny Frogmouths on course.

8. The start/finish line is uniquely identified with a much loved wooden arch. It was originally an old pine arch installed by the Rotary Club in promotion of the Rotary Path. In 2024 the arch was removed due to termites, and the City of Gosnells kindly replaced it with a new wooden arch in 2025.

9. Homestead parkrun is the unofficial home of Woosha’s Warriors Social Running Club which is why you always see the bright yellow tops at parkrun on Saturday morning. A total of 151 members have visited Homestead parkrun, combining to record 3,759 finishes, more than any other running club.

10. Homestead Park is so named because it’s the site of the original Homestead in Thornlie. The Homestead ruins are very close to the start/finish line.

It's wonderful to see all essential roles are already full for Saturday, a Run Director's dream!

Did you know a roster is never full at Homestead. If you are really keen to volunteer we can always find a role for you.

We love volunteers! Especially as there is no parkrun without them.
