Our Story
Minimisation of Su***de Harm Australia (MOSH Australia) is a not for profit organisation founded by Jill Chapman and Sandra Lockwood to honour the lives and memories of their sons Michael Chapman and Mark Quick.
The aim of MOSH is to cater for the needs of those at risk of self-harm and su***de and those bereaved through su***de.
MOSH Australia provides psychosocial support through a range of activities which cater for those at risk of and bereaved by su***de. More than 2000 people take their own lives in Australia each year and there are many who believe this figure may well be higher if the truth of many 'accidental' deaths could be found beyond doubt. The figure is greater than that of Australians killed each year in motor vehicle accidents. In fact, some fatalities in single vehicle accidents may well be su***des, but death by su***de is not recorded as no proof exists. This anomaly would make the discrepancies between the two figures even greater.
There are many risk factors associated with self-harm and su***de and these are often exaggerated if the person at risk is bereaved by su***de themselves. When coupled by a lack of protective factors the risk factors can be fatal for those vulnerable members of our community.
