Nicholas Park - Gap Central - Bushcare Group

Nicholas Park - Gap Central - Bushcare Group This bushcare group covers the area of Enoggera creek within The Gap from Illowra Street to Walton B

The group operated previously from 2007 convened by Lyn Martinez. Based around Nicholas Park, the group rehabilited a section of riparian or riverbank vegetation along a stretch of Enoggera Creek behind The Gap State High School. This site features good remnant dry rainforest, in particular an enormous Hard Quandong (Elaeocarpus obovatus), and other creek species including Weeping Lilli Pilli, Black Bean, Green Kamala, Native Grape vine, Stephania, Smilax, Jagera, Guioa and Australian Ebony.

🌿 Nicholas Park Bushcare – Wednesday 4 March 🌿

This week the Nicholas Park crew are heading down to Pender Street to keep the momentum going at this impressive restoration site.

Work here began in 2022 and the progress has been remarkable. The foundations are strong — now it just needs consistent volunteer effort to help it continue thriving.

This pocket of bushland supports sugar gliders and a range of other native wildlife. Every w**d removed and every hour spent on site helps protect that habitat.

📍 Meet opposite 26 Pender St, The Gap
⏰ 7:30am start
☕ Wrap up at 9:30am with a relaxed morning tea

Come along, get your hands dirty, and be part of something that’s clearly making a difference.

🌿🔥 Nicholas Park Bushcare – Be Part of It! 🔥🌿

There’s something special happening every Wednesday morning in The Gap — and you’re invited.

At 7:30am sharp, the Nicholas Park Bushcare legends get stuck into two hours of real, hands-on action: pulling w**ds, planting natives and protecting one of the most beautiful pockets of subtropical rainforest in our area. It’s incredibly rewarding.

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need tools.
You just need to show up dressed for gardening.

Whether you’re a long-time local, new to the area, young, young-at-heart or just keen to give it a go — you’ll be welcomed. There’s always someone to guide you and plenty of laughs along the way.

And yes, we finish with a well-earned morning tea. ☕🌱

📍 This week: Opposite 111 Riaweena Street
⏰ 7:30–9:30am
Wednesday 18 Feb

Come for the rainforest. Stay for the community. Leave knowing you’ve made a real difference.

🌿 Nicholas Park Bushcare – This Wednesday 17 Sep 🌿

We might have had a break from social media, but not from bushcare! 💪 Over the past few weeks, our crew has been working hard at Alfred & Lucina Best Park and down at the creek near Blucher Ave. The plantings from a few years back are thriving 🌱 — but sadly, so is the rubbish piling up in the creek.

📍 This week we’ll be meeting opposite 105 Riaweena St from 7:30–9:30am, finishing up with a well-earned morning tea. If you’re running late, don’t worry — we’ll be close by and easy to spot.

There’ll be plenty of tasks to suit all abilities — remember, some of our regulars are in their 80s, so there’s no excuse not to get involved! 😉

Come along, lend a hand, and help us keep our creeks and parks healthy for people, plants, and wildlife.

🌿 Working Bee – Pender St 🌿

Thanks to our amazing friends at SOWN, we’ve got some incredible before-and-after photos from last week’s working bee! This Wednesday, 20 Aug, we’re back at Pender St—meet opposite 24 Pender St from 7:30–9:30am, finishing with morning tea.

It’s going to look even better this week as we spot the glycine dying off, and it’s fantastic to be part of this site’s return to critically endangered sub-tropical rainforest. Come along and be part of the transformation!

Ekka Holiday? We’re Still Bushcaring! 🌱

The Nicholas Park Bushcare Group will be out regenerating the creek this Wednesday 13 August – public holiday or not!

This week we’re heading to the Pender St site, which was extensively restored by Healthy Land and Water back in 2022. It’s looking fantastic, but it needs a bit of TLC to make sure the w**ds don’t creep back in.

📍 Meet: Park opposite 24 Pender St
⏰ Time: 7:30 am – 9:30 am (morning tea provided)
👒 Bring: Gardening clothes, hat, water bottle
🧤 We’ll supply: Tools and gloves

Everyone’s welcome – come help keep this special part of the creek thriving!
