I’ll make this short and sweet. We had such good news to tell to start with but not long after her treatment went south she could no longer tolerate the treatment she was on we tried lower doses but still with horrible side effects that left her many times fighting for her life in hospital. We tried other expensive drugs. She fought hard but still the cancer grew. We couldn’t stop the cancer she passed away Tuesday morning surrounded by family. I was there for her first breaths and her last my life will never be the same again. Forever heart broken. I love you stac love mum ###

Warning long catch up grab a beer make a cuppa and read on…Well what a journey we have been on. So after stacie returned from Adelaide things got real bad. I rang an ambulance she couldn’t even get out of bed. We got to the hospital and after a quick examination we were told we are at end of life. They asked her if she wanted to be revived or go on life support they wanted her to go home and spend what time she had left with her family. We were beyond devastated to say the least. It wasn’t an option no way we could leave that hospital she was way too sick and in unbearable pain.

We were in palliative care for 2 months straight. She battled most days that heavily medicated that she couldn’t even walk. The pain was that extreme not even the highest doses of medication were cutting it and I mean massive doses. It was quite tricky for the palliative team to get her on a level where she could function a bit but still be out of pain.

They started what they called palliative radiation. To help get her out of pain. Tumours were sitting on her neck and shoulder pressing on nerves. At one stage she could hardly swallow from the inflammation around her tumours pushing on her neck. So radiation started some days I would look at her and couldn’t believe she was pushing on. Nearly passing out looking like death to be honest. I’d say to give it a miss today it’s too much. But no she continued. 20 rounds of radiation.

We were lucky the ward we were on was the best ward that I have ever experienced. And the drivers who took stacie to and from radiation everyday and helped her get through this were next level amazing. Some of the nicest people we have ever met.

I say we not just stacie because most days between Matt on weekends and me through the week days we had our own bed beside hers. I was getting fatter just doing nothing but eating hospital food. I know that’s crazy in itself I mean who can stand to eat that stuff. But being bored and 99.9% mostly deserts haha. The .1% was just trying the dinner.

Anyway after two months we decided it was time for us to leave not because she was well enough but because it was going to cost us another $4500 a month for tablets she started in there. At this stage stacie was even anxious to leave the hospital. I would put her in a wheelchair chair at first for about 10 minutes and built up till I could get her down to the river. I wondered at that stage if I would ever get her home. I remember pushing her down to the hospital shop one of the first trips out of the room. She wanted to look at everything. What we take for granted going out shopping ect she was so interested in everything they had for sale as she had been in the same room for over a month. That even the hospital shop was something more exciting than her room.

We didn’t want to leave our safe bubble. I didn’t know how long we would be home before we would be back again. Stacie’s radiation burns were next level. We put cream on them every day skin was peeling off everywhere down to the flesh. Amazingly it didn’t get infected. And very very slowly it healed. After that healed she went down hill again. She got pneumonia it was deep in her lung it alone could have been fatal. She once again battled through it.

After the initial review when we first was admitted to hospital we were told she was at end of life and after reviewing her again a month later they told us 3 months maybe 4 at the very best. Which would have been about two weeks ago.

She’s still here not only is she still here she had a scan on Tuesday and we got the results on Thursday that she has had complete response to this new drug she is on. They say she is cancer free as the cancers she has got are that small that they won’t harm her. There is inflammation in her lungs they are saying it could be from the radiation and pneumonia and they will keep an eye on it. And you bet I will be too. Is it a miracle or her determination that we have come this far. Probably both. I’ve got a little more religious than I was as I prayed so many times for a miracle and give her a chance. This is the only and the very only good news we have had since the diagnosis. I know I didn’t keep everyone up to date but I just wanted some good news to share.

And what news. Stacie is one amazing woman who has been through so much more than I can write down. The pain she has endured since this all started is not something I can put into words. Stacie never stops amazing me seriously she is a warrior. She is still on heavy pain killers she has damage to her nerves. Something now we maybe able to focus on.

I relate to what she has been through would be somewhat like being in the trenches at war missing body parts not knowing from one day to the next if she was going to make it through the night. Facing death every day fighting to stay alive. Often I would say to her we are back in the trenches when things were grim. Well this is her war of victory. I’d like to thank everyone for your support prayers blessings healings all this has made the world of difference. Thank you to my family and co for keeping the fight in stacie to give her words of encouragement and believing in her when I thought it was impossible for her to get through this. For always staying positive and holding it together. So good riddance to 2023 and bring on 2024 life doesn’t get any better than this news.

Been a while since we have updated. Germany wasn’t as successful as we would of hoped. But the good news it hasn’t spread any further. Stacie is currently in Sydney getting lots of good treatment to keep her immune system up. There’s a new trial at end of year we are hoping to get on. So plan is too keep up her health and hopefully get on this trial. Well that’s the plan for now it could change.
