Learn a skill. Share a feed. Meet a mate.

Join Granite Borders Landcare at the Tenterfield Men's Shed on Saturday, 21 November for this FREE community workshop – “Cut to the Chase”. Learn something new as Josh from JLN on-farm butchering takes us through the basics of breaking down a beast, identifying the different cuts and making the most of the whole animal.

Held in the spirit of Movember, men’s wellbeing and International Men’s Day, it about more than butchering – here’s a chance to learn something useful, have a yarn, meet someone new and finish off with a BBQ.

Got something in your wardrobe that needs a new lease on life, or keen to try natural dyeing and eco-printing? Join Granite Borders Landcare at Steinbrook Hall on Saturday, 14 November from 10am for a fun, hands-on workshop with Kay and Marie from MAKE IT Tenterfield.

Choose from the following options, with morning and afternoon sessions available.

Repair, Don’t Replace – facilitated by Marie Ihle
Bring along an item that you would like to recycle or repair. Repair something that has been ripped, learn to sew on a button, take up a hem, fix a pocket. What you bring depends on what you have to upcycle with a bit of bling. The session will unfold according to what you and others bring!

Connecting Nature Through Creativity - facilitated by Kay Gray
Natural dyeing using things from nature, including bark, flowers and leaves. These add soft shades and shapes to any cloth that you work with. Kay will bring these for you, but please bring an item to dye. These should ideally be natural fibres: cotton, linen, viscose. So, bring a garment or scarf that you would like to colour with shadow dyes.

These are two very different interest areas. You are welcome to do both, but make sure you register for both workshops and please bring the items requested for each.

Register to be part of the Living Soils project with Granite Borders Landcare!

Living Soils is a 9-month practical learning journey exploring how farmers and landholders can build soil biology, improve soil function and support more resilient pastures and landscapes. It demonstrates a whole systems approach to biologically repairing our soils, mitigating climate change and building resilience within our communities. Our field days are designed around demonstrating compost types, compost-Indigenous Micro-Organism (IMO) extract trials and hands on activities.

Start the journey with us on Friday, 2nd of October 2026.

WHEN: Friday 2 October | 9am–2pm

WHERE: Wallangarra School of Arts Hall, (56 Merinda Street, Wallangarra, Qld)

Come prepared to do a take-home task to contribute to our process and solidify your learning. You will be guided through this and materials will be provided.

Lunch is also provided, with catering by the Courtyard Cafe.

Next steps?

It is a bit of a choose your own adventure, in that you will get to choose your preferred site (Ballandean – worm compost and Johnson Su; or Woodside – anaerobic BAM compost), you can also choose to follow both. There will be opportunities to test your own soils using our MicroBiometers on Landcare Office drop-in days, and a film finale to attend at the end. Each event will be ticketed separately, so please keep watching this space for follow-up events!

Granite Borders Landcare Living Soils project began with baseline soil testing on our two landholder property events, see pictures below.

These field visits set us up for the Introductory Workshop at Wallangarra Hall on Friday 2nd October. Make sure to register, so that you can join us on this discovery into improving the life in your soils.
