👑 SHOWGIRL SPOTLIGHT | ALYSSA – 2022 👑

As we celebrate 150 years of the Tenterfield Show, we’re looking back at some of the wonderful young women who have stepped forward to represent our Show and our community.
Today we hear from Alyssa, our 2022 Tenterfield Showgirl, about her experience, why she entered and what she learnt along the way. 💙
1. What was the best part of your experience as the Tenterfield Showgirl?
“The best experiences I had being the Tenterfield Showgirl, was an opportunity that allowed me to experience firsthand the incredible community spirit that makes Tenterfield so special.
Throughout the Show, I was able to see how people from all walks of life came together to proudly showcase their skills, talents and hard work across each section. It was inspiring to witness the dedication and passion that members of our community put into making the Show such a wonderful event.
Being the Tenterfield Showgirl also gave me the opportunity to represent my community and, most importantly, to be a positive role model for young girls. I hope that by taking on this role and putting myself forward for the Showgirl event, I have encouraged other young women to step outside their comfort zones, believe in themselves, stand up for what they believe in and take pride in being involved in their community.
It was an incredibly rewarding experience that I will always cherish.”
2. Why did you decide to enter the Showgirl competition?
“I decided to enter the Showgirl competition because it was something I had grown up watching and admiring from a young age. With several of my own family members heavily involved within the Show Committee, the Show has always held a special place in my family and has been a big part of my life.
As I got older, I began to see the Showgirl competition as an opportunity to become more involved in my community and challenge myself in a way I had never done before. Entering meant stepping outside of my comfort zone, putting myself forward and believing in my own abilities.
Most importantly, I wanted to show other young girls within our community that they are capable of achieving things they may not initially feel confident enough to do. I hope that by taking that first step myself, I can encourage other young women to believe in themselves, set their minds to something and have the courage to give it a go.”
3. What was the hardest or most daunting part?
“The hardest and most daunting part of being the Showgirl was the pressure I put on myself to always be the best version of myself while representing my community.
Taking on the role came with a level of responsibility and commitment that I was determined to uphold, while also continuing to work towards my own personal goals. Balancing the responsibilities of being Showgirl alongside university, rodeos and my other commitments was challenging at times, and it taught me the importance of time management, dedication and knowing when to give myself some grace.
I wanted to make the most of every opportunity that came with the role while still staying true to who I am and continuing to pursue the things that are important to me.
Ultimately, the experience pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me grow in confidence, resilience and as a young woman within my community.”
✨ COULD 2027 BE YOUR YEAR? ✨
Alyssa’s story is exactly what the Showgirl experience is about — community, confidence, personal growth and having the courage to put yourself forward.
You don’t have to walk into it feeling completely confident. Sometimes, putting your hand up and giving it a go is where that confidence begins.
As we prepare for our 150th Tenterfield Show, we would love to see another group of young women step forward, challenge themselves and become part of this very special piece of our Show’s history.
