Friends Of Yarra Valley Parks

Friends Of Yarra Valley Parks FOYVP is a volunteer group helping with the conservation and rehabilitation of parklands and river ba Bring your own gloves.

**COVID 19 measures: We prefer that you sign in for each activity on the Parkconnect website https://www.parkconnect.vic.gov.au/ Morning tea will not be provided – please bring your own. To minimise sharing of tools, please bring your own if you can. Some tools can be provided and sanitiser will be available. Bring a mask and wear it if distancing cannot be maintained. You will need old clothes an

d sturdy shoes, gardening gloves, a parka, or hat and sunscreen, and a water bottle. You may also like to bring insect repellent. You don't have to stay for the entire session - even an hour of your time would make a valuable contribution to the Yarra Valley Park environment.**

We are advocates for the environmental protection and sustainability of the Yarra River, from Warrandyte State Park through to Bulleen Park. We organise monthly planting activities, in conjunction with Parks Victoria, regularly revisiting prior plantings to conduct w**d and rabbit eradication and maintenance activities. We have a close working relationship with Parks Victoria rangers, we have a qualified engineer responsible for on-ground project ex*****on. FYVP was instrumental in Melbourne Water’s $400,000 project for environmental restoration of degraded Montpelier Billabong in 2016, and supported a native plants nursery at the Westerfolds depot of Parks Victoria that is jointly managed with Cam Beardsell OAM of Parks Victoria.

Park at ‘What-3-words’ location https://w3w.co/flap.bind.mirror
Planting in a new site adjacent to Fitzsimons Lane. Rangers have discovered a surprising range of indigenous plants surviving here where kangaroos and rabbits are rare and the soil low in nutrients. Park in the ‘24-hour carpark’ which is next to the planting site. It is just north of the main entry to Westerfolds from Fitzsimons Lane. Bring your favorite planting tool if you have one. If not, tools will be provided. There’s a cuppa to finish.

You are very welcome to join us at our next activity:
Sunday 26 April – 10 am to 12 Noon – Candlebark Park (Mel 21 H11)
We will be removing woven plastic w**d mats left after planting decades ago in Candlebark Park, just south of the footbridge across the Yarra, near where we planted in 2024. As well as leaking shreds of plastic into the environment, the presence of these old guards can give the impression that the park is not well looked after. Park at the end of Homestead Road, Eltham at ‘What-3-words’ location https://w3w.co/swear.pasta.tunes. Then cross the footbridge to the site. A mattock and box cutter/Stanley knife would be handy, but tools will be provided, along with a cuppa when we’re done.

Although we have removed hundreds of woven plastic w**d mats in the last few years, there are still hundreds remaining along the Yarra, slowly becoming microplastics.
Please help us to remove a few hundred more this Sunday 26 October – 10 am to 12 Noon – beside the Main Yarra Trail near the end of Bonds Road (Mel 33 A3.)
A mattock and box cutter/Stanley knife would be handy, but tools will be provided. Park near the end of Bonds Rd. (What3Words location https://w3w.co/outfit.lines.friday) then follow signs west along the trail to the site.
