Hello bird lovers!

Winter is certainly well on it’s way, but the sky will be clear and sunny so it should be a great day for bird spotting tomorrow, 9th May.

Come along for a walk through the wetlands or by the Cooks river, and enjoy a warm cup of tea or coffee afterwards at morning tea (if you can bring along something to share that would be fantastic!)

Meet at 7.45am for 8.00am at the clearing next to water basin 1, Tempe Wetlands, corner of South and Station Streets, Tempe. And don’t forget to bring a pair of binoculars if you have them and mug for morning tea afterwards.

It's survey time again this Saturday11th April! Come and join us for a stroll around Tempe Wetlands and Tempe Reserve checking out the birdlife! It's a beaut hidden gem in the inner west, and over the years we've counted over 120 bird species using this area as their permanent home or seasonal stop off.
We meet at 7.45am for an 8.00am start at the large water basin near the corner of South and Station Streets, Tempe. Your eyes and ears are your best asset for spotting birds. Bring binoculars if you have them, but they're not necessary. Our 90 minute walk takes in a number of different habitats that are favoured by diverse species such as wrens, whistlers, rails, coots, ducks, cormorants, herons, parrots, cuckoos and raptors.
After our survey we gather for morning tea. Just BYO mug and something to share if you wish.
Hope to see you there!

Happy Autumn everyone!
This Saturday 14th March is our monthly bird survey in Tempe. Come meet us at Tempe Wetlands in the open area near Water Basin 1 (the largest one) around 7:45am for an 8am start. Best bet is to head towards the junction of South and Station Streets.
You never know what you'll see. In fact, we added a new species to our list, an Australian Hobby seen over the Tempe Reserve survey area.
There's nothing special you need for bird watching, but if you wish, bring binoculars or your cameras if you like bird photography too. Stay for morning tea after a 90 minute walk and enjoy a chat. BYO mug!
Love to see you there!

Join Tempe Birdos this Saturday 14th February for a spot of bird surveying in the Inner West! You never know what you'll see.
Last month we added a Brush Cuckoo to our list of 120+ species, and a domestic white goose who was gingerly negotiating the oyster shells before dipping into the Cooks River. Another interesting sight was a Currawong saddled with feeding insects to a giant, juvenile Channel-billed Cuckoo.
We meet at Tempe Wetlands, Water Basin 1 near the corner of South and Station Streets, Tempe from 7.45am for an 8.00am start. BYO binoculars and a mug for morning tea after the survey which takes about 90 minutes.
Hope to see you there!

Hey there bird lovers, Tempe Birdos first survey of the year is on this Saturday 10th January 2026. Choose between strolling through the Tempe Wetlands survey site or the more open Tempe Reserve, taking in more sea birds. Both areas have a good diversity of bird species and other local wildlife across multiple habitats.
Last month we were surprised to see not 1 but 4 Striated (Mangrove) Herons on the banks of the Cooks River. We recorded 20 species at the wetlands and 24 species at the Reserve, with 31 species in total across both areas.
This month we will more than likely see Chestnut Teal, Grey Teal, Hardheads, Cormorants, Dusky Moorhens & Purple Swamphens, Figbirds, New Holland Honeyeaters, and Silvereyes, just to name a few.
We meet at 7.45am for an 8.00am start, at Tempe Wetlands largest water basin near the corner of South and Station Streets. We then survey for 90 minutes at a leisurely pace before the two groups meet up for morning tea. No experience? No worries! Come along and bring your ears and eyes, and if you want to, a pair of binoculars. BYO mug for morning tea.

G'day folks!
Spring is here! The wattle is sprouting and the birds will be busy, so why not come along to our bird survey and take a sticky beak (so to speak!). We're also expecting sunny weather so it should be a perfect day for birding this Saturday 13th Sep. Our meeting spot is in the open area next to Water Basin 1 at Tempe Wetlands near the corner of South and Station Streets, Tempe. We gather at 7.45am to start the survey at 8.00am for a gentle wander til 9.30am.

Bring along a mug and something to share if you'd like to stay for morning tea afterwards!

Hope to see you all there!

We survey in all weather!
