Can Assist Temora We are the Temora branch of the Cancer Assistance Network. We raise funds and provide support for cancer victims who live in the Temora Shire.

Can Assist Temora Branch are a dedicated bunch of volunteers who donate their time and skills for fund-raising to provide financial and other practical assistance to cancer sufferers who live in Temora Shire or who use medical facilities within Temora Shire. The phone number to call is 0429 774966

🔦 Can Assist’s mission is to shine a light on people affected by cancer across country NSW. But this National Carers Week, we’re shining a light on the people who care for and support them too.

The 2026 theme, “Care for a carer: Making carers visible,” recognises the invaluable contribution of unpaid carers and encourages us to recognise, support and care for the carers in our families, workplaces and communities.

More than 3 million Australians provide unpaid care to a family member or friend.

At Can Assist, care can take many forms. It might be a volunteer supporting someone in their local community, a family member by their side through treatment, a friend checking in, or a neighbour offering a helping hand. 🫶

Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that mean the most: driving someone to an appointment, making a meal, answering the phone or simply being there to listen.

To every carer supporting someone affected by cancer, we see you, we appreciate you and we say thank you. 💚

When cancer changes everything, having someone nearby who can say “yes, we can help” can make a real difference. 💚

As your local Can Assist branch, we’re here for people in our community when cancer makes life harder. Help with the costs that come with treatment can take some of the pressure off, so people can focus on what matters most.

⛽ 🛣️ A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. For people in our community, the challenges can extend beyond treatment itself.

Travel, accommodation, time away from work and everyday expenses can all add up, creating extra practical and financial pressure at an already difficult time.

That’s where Can Assist comes in. 💚

Through our local branch, we help people affected by cancer with practical and financial support, helping ease some of the extra challenges that can come with getting the care they need.

🏃‍♀️ There’s still time to support us in Can Do The Distance! 💚

The challenge concluded on 31 August, but donations close tomorrow at 11:59pm, so there’s still time to show your support.

Our fundraisers across NSW clocked up more than 3,000km together throughout the month — going the distance for country cancer patients. 🛣️

On behalf of our branch, a huge thank you to every fundraiser, donor and member of our community who helped us do the distance this August. 🫶

Every Can Assist branch has a story.

Meet Leanne. 👋 Leanne is the face of this year’s Can Do the Distance campaign. And just like so many of us, she’s doing the distance for someone she loves: her sister, Ellie.

Ellie was supported by Can Assist Harden and Young throughout her cancer journey, helping her and her family navigate the 5,000km they travelled for treatment. When Ellie’s cancer returned aggressively, she sadly passed away at just 27 years old.

👟This August, Leanne is walking 270km in Ellie’s memory, taking on 10km for every year of her sister’s life. Ellie was passionate about spreading the word about Can Assist so more country families could find the support they need, and find it earlier. Leanne is carrying that message forward with every kilometre.

Maybe you could be the face of next year’s Can Do the Distance campaign? Or perhaps you know someone whose story deserves to be shared?
