đźš’ MEET THE MEMBERS - ANDREW đźš’
This week, we’re introducing Andrew, one of the long-standing members of the Teesdale CFA team!
At 30 years old, Andrew has lived in Teesdale his whole life and has been part of the CFA for an incredible 14 years. Working in civil construction and running his own business, he’s always enjoyed being outdoors, working with people and getting involved in the local community.
Andrew first joined the CFA at just 16, after a mate dragged him along and what started as a spur-of-the-moment decision turned into 14 years of volunteering and one of the best decisions he’s ever made!
For the past eight years, Andrew has served as our 2nd Lieutenant and Training Officer, looking after all things training. He’s also a Crew Leader, a member of the District RAFT team and is soon to become a Planned Burn Operations Officer. 🔥
One of the things Andrew enjoys most is passing on knowledge, building the team’s skills and getting everyone together for training. Whether it’s responding to fires, educating the community or helping with fuel management, he loves being able to get outdoors and make a difference.
His CFA journey has taken him well beyond Teesdale, including three deployments to NSW during the Black Summer of 2019, followed by a deployment to East Gippsland. More recently, January 9 this year stood out as another memorable day when catastrophic conditions saw a large fire start right here in our local area.
Outside the CFA, Andrew enjoys camping, four-wheel driving, spending time with mates, watching the footy and, of course, working!
What does he love most about Teesdale? The small, tight-knit country community where everyone gets behind each other and supports the CFA when we need it.
His three words to describe our brigade? Close-knit. Inclusive. Committed.
And his advice to anyone thinking about joining the CFA?
“Just do it!” There are countless opportunities to learn new skills, make new friends and experience different parts of your community and the state. You never know where the CFA might take you! 🚒
