An important reminder for everyone as we head into the fire season
🚁 Firefighting aircraft are currently working in the Stieglitz, Dianas Basin and Peron Dunes areas of Tasmania’s East Coast and there have been reports of unauthorised drones in the area.
⚠️❌ Unless authorised, drones cannot be flown in the vicinity of natural disasters, such as bushfires, floods, electrical storms and cyclones, or emergency operations, such as traffic accidents, tactical response, training, or rescue operations.
❌ While it might be tempting to record footage, flying a drone or other unmanned aircraft poses a major safety risk to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground. Drone useage can cause aerial firefighting assets to be grounded.
👨🚒🔥Firefighters on the ground depend on aerial support to help suppress and contain fires and by flying your drone, you not only put them in danger but also the people and property they’re trying to protect.
❗Aircraft - both manned and unmanned - that are not coordinated through the Tasmania Fire Service Air Desk are requested to remain clear of aerial firefighting operations.
ℹ️ If you’ve got a drone, it’s important to understand the rules:
📌 Civil Aviation Safety Authority - CASA drone rules apply to everyone - www.casa.gov.au/drones
📌 Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service rules regarding the use of drones in national parks - https://parks.tas.gov.au/explore-our-parks/know-before-you-go/drones-in-parks
