Construction of Moyola’s refurbishment project is well and truly underway. Bowden Builders site manager Dave is pictured with our resident Kim. Kim worked as a carpenter and he’s been loving watching the work unfold, he said “I only wish I could get in there and give them a hand”.

The first phase of the refurbishment focuses on the demolition of the external services outside Ford Wing, Moyola CEO Polly Devine explains “there has been an extensive amount of preliminary work that has got us here, these preparations have not only got us to this point, but they have also laid the groundwork for a successful project in the long term. We are so thrilled to report that we have officially broken ground and look forward to updating you as the work progresses through the stages”.

Residents have been engaged with the project through installations of the CADS throughout the facility and forums with Facility Manager Jackie and the project architects.

Winter is here, and Moyola’s knitting group has reconvened – our talented residents have been busy hand-crafting beanies and toys to donate to the local hospital.

A passionate knitter for many years, Joan had stopped knitting before she moved into Moyola. She recently picked up her knitting needles again to create beautiful beanies for premature babies and cancer patients at the local hospital.

While Faye has been busy crocheting toy animals too.

It’s great to see the joy and sense of purpose groups like this bring, and lovely to see residents revisiting old hobbies.

On Tuesday, June 9th, Moyola held its own DIY Big Freeze.

Our residents and staff watched on as we dunked our brave volunteers with icy water. Thanks to Alyssa, Carmel, Chrissy, and Jemma for volunteering to be our drenched participants. Students from Notre Dame and many other familiar volunteers got involved in the event.

It’s great to see a glimmer of the Big Freeze magic within our Moyola community. We raised just over $300, which will be directly donated to Fight MND, and Moyola is proud to have been a registered fundraiser for over three years.

Welcome back Pumpkin! Our wonderful volunteer Di returned with her horse, Pumpkin. Residents loved spending time outdoors in the sunshine, patting Pumpkin and enjoying a change to their daily routine.

Not only do visits like these create moments of connection between residents, but animal therapy provides meaningful companionship that reduces feelings of loneliness and supports resident’s overall emotional wellbeing.

Our communal cat, Elvis, also positively affects our residents’ day-to-day lives. He’s a beloved member of Moyola, cared for by the residents and staff.

We’re proud to be an animal-friendly facility and welcome visitors bringing their pets to visit loved ones. As a courtesy, we kindly ask that you check with reception prior to visiting.

Marg and Jack took advantage of the recent warmer weather and headed out for a walk. Moyola’s proximity to Hogan Street is one of our residents’ favourite things, and community connection is never far.

Moyola’s Big Freeze event is set for 2pm Tuesday June 9th, in the courtyard at Moyola Lodge, and to support Fight MND 8 willing participants (soon to be ice cubes) will be taking a cold plunge – as together we can make MND history.

Donations can be made at Moyola’s reception.

Joan recently celebrated her 87th birthday at Moyola.

Her family, together with our staff, surprised her with a cake. And of course, a birthday isn’t complete at Moyola without Alyssa and Chrissy dressing up for the festivities.
