The original Centre was built in 1993 and was originally was planned for a long day-care, funded by the Defence Force. The Centre has never operated as a long day-care centre but is now used as a kindergarten and a community centre since 1993. In August 1999 the centre changed its name to the Grange Community Centre from the Grange Children's Centre. The change of name reflected on the move from being solely a children's service to include the wider community.
