Good write Dirranbandi Polocrosse Club 👌
Tell us a campfire yarn?
Will never forget James Carson going to the bar at Tara and waking up on the far side of the racecourse, then wearing his hi-vis jacket to the bar on saturday night so we could find him in case it happened again.
We have a slight suspicion that wouldn’t be the only campfire yarn to come out of the famous Tara bar… 😜🍻
Next up is Dirran’s very own unicorn; the bloke who’s more then handy on the field, goes over and beyond with the behind the scenes work, can turn his hand to a microphone and even coaches the local pony club kids! Yep that’s him Jamie Knight…. That’s probably a fair enough intro really we better dig up some dirt and see what Jamie had to say when we caught up with him trying to sneak Treasure out the back yard from his sister Emma !
When was your first carnival mate and which horse were you on?
My first carnival was in the subbies when i was about 8 or 9 i reckon, riding old charm the family pony club mare, will never forget harry sheahan running rings around everyone!
And moving forward who’s in the string this year ?
There’s few more in the string this year compared to years gone by, i’ll jump between Barney, Marco and maybe Treasure if Emma lets me 😉 very lucky to have an unreal string of horses!
2026 goals; any on the radar aside from beating Quirindi at Dirran ?
The goal going into any season I think is to be competitive, be good to play against and enjoy ourselves while doing it so would be that I reckon.
Tell us a campfire yarn? Keep
It clean mate we know you hang around with that Josh Woodward a bit !!
Will never forget James Carson going to the bar at Tara and waking up on the far side of the racecourse, then wearing his hi-vis jacket to the bar on saturday night so we could find him in case it happened again.
Best win in yellow ?
Very hard to split the A Grade win at Warwick in 2024 and the A grade win at Dirran last year, I know which one had the better after party though.
Your rep resume is a long one; tell us what it’s like wearing the maroon?
It’s a very proud moment to represent your state and i’ve been lucky enough to do that on a few occasions over the last few years but club polocrosse is so important, to be able to build a side through a season and watch players improve and horses improve is really rewarding.
Toughest opponent ? Aside from kempo at a Sunday practice !!
Over the last couple of years we’ve run into Abbott & Carlie Grills a few times and they don’t give you an inch, world class players and you’ve got to be right on your game to get over the top of them.
If you had the choice of any horse for the weekend who you putting on the gooseneck ?
I’m taking Jim Grills’ great mare Berragoon Scarlett, she’s had a fair few jockeys over the years and they all seem to lift 5 gears when they’re on her, she’s probably the best horse i’ve ever seen live.
Youve been touted as Polocrosse version of the mighty Rabbits Warren tell us about the passion there -
Yeah well it started just doing the odd game at the home carnival and then as i did more of it i really enjoy being able to lift the vibe of a carnival and showcase the sport in the best way i can.
Riding on for extra time at Morgan Park who you taking with you -
I’m taking Jack Knight and Lachie Perkins, two of the best ball getters i’ve ever played with.
Cameron Tickell or James Carson ?
Well i’ve never seen Tickell run a demolition job out the back on abbott grills 🤷♂️
Ha! Top job mate good to catch up! Look forward to hearing how the king browns go at Thargo …..
