⚠️ SAFETY FIRST: KNOW WHEN TO REMOVE YOUR WIRE SLINGS! ⚠️

Wire slings are critical for lifting operations – but using a damaged one can lead to catastrophic consequences. Here’s what to watch out for, plus key hazards and precautions:

✅ BROKEN WIRES
What it is: Fractured strands weakening the sling
⚠️ Hazard: Load collapse, lacerations
✅ Precaution: Inspect before use; replace if limits are exceeded

✅ SEVERE WEAR/ABRASION
What it is: Significant material loss from friction
⚠️ Hazard: Sudden failure, load/worker injury
✅ Precaution: Use protectors; check diameter regularly

✅ KINKING/CRUSHING/BIRDCAGEING
What it is: Deformations from mishandling/overload
⚠️ Hazard: Stress-related failure, entanglement
✅ Precaution: Store properly; avoid twisting under load

✅ CORROSION
What it is: Rust/chemical damage making strands brittle
⚠️ Hazard: Hidden weak points, load drops
✅ Precaution: Keep dry; clean after corrosive use

✅ HEAT DAMAGE
What it is: Altered material properties from high temps
⚠️ Hazard: Unexpected failure, toxic fumes
✅ Precaution: Keep away from heat; use heat-resistant slings

✅ DAMAGED END FITTING
What it is: Bent/cracked hooks, shackles or eyes
⚠️ Hazard: Disengagement, catastrophic falls
✅ Precaution: Inspect fittings; use manufacturer-approved parts

✅ STIFFNESS/CORE FAILURE
What it is: Loss of flexibility from internal damage
⚠️ Hazard: Uneven stress, collapse risks
✅ Precaution: Check flexibility; avoid harsh conditions

✅ OVERLOADING EVIDENCE
What it is: Stretched/deformed structure from excess weight
⚠️ Hazard: Weakened capacity, failure at lower loads
✅ Precaution: Calculate loads; never exceed ratings

✅ MISSING/ILLEGIBLE IDTAG
What it is: Lost/unreadable info on capacity/inspections
⚠️ Hazard: Incorrect use, missed maintenance

✅ Precaution: Replace tags; track slings with a system

Safety isn’t optional – it’s everyone’s responsibility! Share this to keep your team informed and protected.

Many workplaces have confined spaces such as pits, drains and structural voids in buildings or equipment. They often have poor ventilation that can allow a hazardous atmosphere to quickly develop. The hazards are not always obvious and may change from one entry into the confined space to the next and depend on the workplace or environmental circumstances. Dangerous and high-risk work can often call for extra safety measures and precautions. If there is work being done that has the potential to endanger the health and safety of your workers or contractors, ERT RESCUE GROUP can provide standby Emergency Rescue Teams (ERT) to be on standby at your site and be ready to respond if required.
