As we conclude Volunteer Week, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the volunteers who contribute to AHLTA's mission. Firstly, we thank our current volunteer committee and the predecessors who have preserved the legacy established by Dr. Victor Chang over 40 years ago. Secondly, our appreciation goes to the AHLTA Ladies for their selfless efforts in baking, making, and selling goods at stalls in Manly, with proceeds directly supporting AHLTA's programs, such as our house and financial assistance programs. Lastly, we are grateful to our members who engage with our pages, demonstrating the kindness and empathy that are fundamental to our organization. Thank you. Nat Bown, AHLTA Secretary on behalf of the AHLTA Committee.

Hi everyone, we have been asked to share this paid research study.

Stem cells for heart failure interview study.

Study Name: Understanding stakeholder needs, attitudes and perceptions to inform clinical trials for pluripotent stem cell derived cardiomyocyte therapy.

Study P*s: Prof James Chong overall PI for stem cell research program (Westmead Institute/USyd), additional P*s for this interview study are Prof Wendy Lipworth (Macquarie Uni) and Prof Ian Kerridge (USyd)

Investigators from St Vincent's: Prof Hayward, Prof Macdonald, A/Prof Muthiah, Dr Zoe Clayton - all collaborate with Prof Chong and are CIs or AIs on his stem cell MRFF grants

What does the study involve: A 60 minute interview with a member of the study team. Can be phone, Zoom, or face-to-face. Participants will be asked about their thoughts on topics including: when is a new treatment really ready for people to try, what are your hopes and concerns for a stem cell therapy, what factors would make a clinical trial safe and worthwhile to you? Participants will receive a $50 voucher for their time.

We’re recruiting across Australia through cardiology networks, heart failure clinics, consumer and advocacy groups, and outreach networks. We would love if AHLTA could help us share this study with your members.

For further information, please contact: Zoe Clayton, Heart Lung Clinical Research Program Manager, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney

This is part of our AHLTA history as well ♥️

In 1984, Dr Victor Chang gathered 10 patients whose lives were saved through pioneering heart transplant surgery.
This remarkable photo captures the excitement of this amazing moment in time, and represents the future of cardiac surgery in Australia.

Today, the Victor Chang Foundation continues to honour the legacy left by Dr Chang by supporting the next generation of heart surgeons and advancing life-changing innovation.
