Coast Cruising Club of Australia Presents – Ruth Boydell
Join us for a special evening with Ruth Boydell, an accomplished sailor, author, and adventurer.
Ruth’s remarkable story began at just 17 years of age, when she joined a thirty-something Englishman who was single-handing a yacht around the world, sailing from Papua New Guinea to northern Brazil.
Returning to Australia in her late twenties, Ruth purchased her own small yacht and embarked on another seven-year voyage, following a route similar to her earlier journey. Along the way, she worked as a charter boat skipper in the Caribbean before returning home to Australia, where she taught sailing, seamanship, and navigation.
Later in life, Ruth set off on a third major sailing adventure, this time accompanied by her husband, Dave, a paramedic.
In her book, Rocking the Boat, Ruth shares a life filled with freedom, courage, and adventure. The book also explores deeper themes including loneliness, mental health, and mortality.
