A little CWA excitement from our Sydney City Branch!

Our very own Rebecca Lim, Maddy Langabeer and Yvette Henderson had the pleasure of taking part in ABC’s Recipe of the Year.

Maddy and Yvette feature as dining judges in episode one, while Rebecca joins the judging panel in episode four alongside the CWA convener Ellice Schrader. We’re so proud of all three!

There’s so much more to the CWA than what comes out of our ovens, but sharing good food is always a great place to start.

Celebrate the arrival of spring with the CWA on Sunday at Concord Rotary Club’s Father’s Day market. Our stall will be jam-packed with sweet and savoury preserves, including new-season marmalades and zesty sauces and chutneys. Let us put together a gift bag of taste treats for Dad! We’ll also have our famous freshly baked plain and date scones, as well as special Father’s Day packs of biscuits.
Funds made on the day will help our charitable causes, including education grants for kids in the bush whose families need a helping hand.
There’s always plenty of free parking at the market, which will be held at Cintra Park car park in Crane St, near Concord High School, from 8:30 to 12:30. Come and say hello.

Our members have been busy boiling and bottling marmalade, jam and pickles for our spring market stalls, which kick off with Concord Rotary Farmers’ Market on Sunday, September 6. At the Father’s Day market, there’ll be lots of great gift ideas for Dad, from sweet chilli sauce to tangy marmalade and spicy chutney. He might also like a CWA cookbook or apron – or you can treat him to a bag of our freshly baked plain or date scones.
Money raised will go towards the charitable causes we support, such as Macquarie Home Stay near Dubbo Base Hospital, which offers affordable accommodation for patients travelling to Dubbo for treatment.
The market will be held at Cintra Park car park in Crane St, near Concord High School, from 8:30 to 12:30. There’s always plenty of free parking.

On Saturday, some of our lovely members had the opportunity to eat at The Spice Plantation, a Fijian restaurant in Alexandria, to celebrate our country of study this year, Fiji.

The food was delicious and a wonderful time was had! Thanks very much to our International Officer Kim O’Heron for organising!

CWA Sydney City Branch has again been nominated for a NSW Volunteer of the Year Award in the Teams category for Sydney City/Eastern Suburbs. At the awards ceremony, held today at Club York in the city, it was announced that there were a record 149,000 nominations across NSW in 25 regions. It was also revealed that there are an amazing 4.9 million volunteers in NSW.

The awards are held annually by The Centre for Volunteering to shine a light on the incredible unpaid work of volunteers, such as CWA members. Sydney City Branch was represented at the ceremony by Secretary, Alicia Kell, and Vice President, Lyn Justice.

With citrus season now in full swing, CWA Sydney City Branch held a marmalade workshop today hosted by Cookery Officer, Jeannette Tran. Held at North Sydney Community Centre, 11 members attended, including some new to jam and marmalade making.

We made tangelo and orange marmalades that will tantalise your tastebuds. They’ll be on sale at our next market stalls: Carriageworks on Saturday, August 22, and Concord Rotary Farmers’ Market on Father’s Day, Sunday, September 6. Keep an eye out for more details. And if anyone has any backyard citrus they’d like to donate, please get in touch.
