Happy Pride Month from QuiltNSW! 🌈

As quilters, we understand the power of bringing different pieces together to create something beautiful.

Every fabric has its own colour, texture, pattern and story. On their own, they’re wonderful. Together, they become something far greater than the sum of their parts.

The quilting community is at its best when it embraces creativity, individuality, diversity and belonging. Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ members of our community, whose talents, perspectives and friendships enrich QuiltNSW and the wider quilting world.

Whether your rainbow lives in your fabric cupboard, on your design wall, in your latest quilt, or simply in the values you bring to our community, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating Pride this month.

Everyone deserves to feel welcome, respected and valued in the spaces where they create.

Happy Pride, QuiltNSW members. May your seams be straight, your points be sharp, and your colours be gloriously unapologetic. 🌈✨

This week we’ll celebrating Pride Month sharing a range of pride posts from our members and the wider quilting community! 🌈

President’s Post

Quilters are experts at turning lots of little pieces into something extraordinary. Right now, QuiltNSW needs a few more pieces to help us do exactly that.

As we prepare for this year’s QuiltNSW Exhibition, we’re looking for volunteers with skills in administration, marketing, sponsorship, computers, social media, project management, organisation, or simply getting things done. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

And here’s the important bit: you don’t need to live in Sydney to help.

This is QuiltNSW, not QuiltSydney. Many of these roles can be done from home, whether you’re in Dubbo, Wagga, Coffs Harbour, Broken Hill, Byron Bay, or anywhere in between. If you’ve got a computer, an internet connection, and a willingness to contribute, there’s likely a role for you.

We’re not looking for a handful of people to do everything. We’re looking for lots of people to do a little. A few hours here and there can make a real difference.

The exhibition is one of the highlights of our quilting calendar, and we’d love your help to make it a success.

So if you’ve ever thought, “I’d like to get more involved,” now is the perfect time.

Get in touch. We’d love to welcome you to the team.

QuiltNSW is an inclusive organisation and we welcome everyone. June is Pride month, when the LGBTQIA+ community is celebrated, focusing on visibility, arts and community resilience. It is an appropriate time to share Danuta Aaron’s story about her Qtopia quilt. “In December 2023, I was invited t...

How did we decide on the QuiltNSW logo? In 1982, members were invited to submit suggestions for a logo. These were the submitted designs: Click or tap on the photo to enlarge it. Do you see anything familiar there? Members then voted on their favourite design and yes, design 16 was the most popular....

Big news, quilt family!

The 2026 QuiltNSW Exhibition is entering a new chapter. For the first time (edited to add: in a long time), the show will be produced and managed by QuiltNSW members, for QuiltNSW members.

Will there be challenges? Absolutely.

Will there be things we need to learn along the way? Without a doubt.

But if there’s one thing quilters know how to do, it’s take a pile of individual pieces, figure out how they fit together, and create something far more magical than anyone imagined possible.

Right now, we don’t have every answer. We won’t pretend that we do. What we can promise is that an incredible team is working furiously behind the scenes to deliver the best QuiltNSW Exhibition yet — one that supports our members, exhibitors, vendors, volunteers, and the wider quilting community.

We are committed to being transparent throughout the entire process. We’ll share what we know, when we know it, and bring you along for the journey as we build this next chapter together.

And for anyone wondering: yes, the show is absolutely going ahead!

📅 17–19 September 2026📍 Rosehill Racecourse

This exhibition belongs to all of us, and we’d love your help. Whether you can spare a few hours or want to become more involved, volunteers will play a vital role in making this show a success.

After all, the best quilts are never made from a single piece of fabric.

They’re made from a community of pieces, stitched together with purpose.

Let’s make something extraordinary!

With Gratitude,
Molli and Sarah

Sunday Stash 🌈

This week’s Sunday Stash is brought to you by my ongoing commitment to making absolutely sure no fabric shop is left with an excess of bright colours.

Some people collect stamps. Some people collect antiques. Apparently, I collect fabrics that can be seen from space.

Looking at this pile, there seems to be a common theme: yellow, pink, orange, purple and blue all fighting for main-character status. There isn’t a neutral in sight. The beige lovers are clutching their pearls. The Glitterati are nodding approvingly.

The best part? None of these fabrics were purchased with a grand plan. They simply followed me home, like brightly coloured stray cats. One day they’ll become a quilt. For now they’re enjoying their time together in the fabric equivalent of a tropical cocktail.

I often hear quilters say they’re nervous about working with bold colour. My advice? Throw caution directly into the scrap bin. Mix the weird print with the loud print. Add the neon. Add the stripe. Add the thing that makes you slightly uncomfortable. That’s usually where the magic lives.

What’s in your stash this Sunday? Are you team subtle sophistication or team “if it doesn’t glow, why bother?”

✨ Happy stitching, QuiltNSW friends.

On Saturday 16 May, we gathered at Club Burwood for our quarterly General Meeting — and what a fantastic day it was!

With away travelling, our wonderful co-president stepped in to chair the meeting and kept everything running beautifully. Here’s a little recap of the day:

✨ Molli walked us through the President’s Report, sharing all the exciting things the executive team has been working on — including plenty of planning for the 2026 show and preparations for the guild’s upcoming 45th anniversary celebrations!

🧵 We were thrilled to welcome back to the executive committee as Sydney Quilt Show Coordinator. Even more exciting? Kaye gave us a sneak peek at the volunteers-only EXCLUSIVE enamel pin for 2026 👀 That’s right — if you want your hands on this gorgeous pin, volunteering at the show is the only way to get one!

🍓 introduced the much-loved Block of the Quarter program, freshly returned for 2025! This quarter’s featured block is the Strawberry block, and all the details are now available on the QuiltNSW website. Don’t forget — completed blocks are due at the next General Meeting.

🪡 Show and Tell featured so many beautiful quilts and inspiring creations that it deserves a post of its own (stay tuned!).

🌎 We also enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Catherine Porter .fanatic on the Molas of Panama. Catherine generously passed around several pieces so everyone could admire the incredibly detailed — and tiny! — stitching up close.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for such a lovely meeting. We can’t wait to see you all again at the next General Meeting on Saturday 15 August!
