🖤💛❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our special NAIDOC Week Community Lunch at Yirranma Place! This year’s 50 Years of Deadly theme celebrates the strength, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Special thanks to Craig Madden, a representative of the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, for his warm Welcome to Country and grounding us in the significance of the land we gathered on. Thank you also to Ebony from Redfern Jarjum College for sharing the students’ inspiring work and reminding us of the strength and pride of the next generation - and to Burraga Foundation and Two Good Co. for helping to make this event possible.

It was a joy to see neighbours, friends, tenants, and families come together to honour community and culture.

Stay tuned for more events - don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list or pop in to our café!

🖤💛❤️ A heartfelt thank you to the students and staff at Redfern Jarjum College!

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, we're honoured to display this beautiful collection of artwork created by students celebrating this year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly."

Each student chose a First Nations person who has inspired and shaped the Redfern community, taking the time to learn their story and reflect on the qualities that make them truly "Deadly" - strength, leadership, resilience and pride.

The result is a colourful and thoughtful display that not only celebrates remarkable role models, but also reminds us of the next generation of young people who will continue to shape their communities.

If you're visiting Yirranma Place this week, be sure to stop by Blue Gum Hall and take a moment to explore their incredible work.

Thank you, Redfern Jarjum College, for sharing your creativity and stories with our community. ❤️

Did you know?

The striking gates at the entrance to Yirranma Place were created by Barkandji artist William Brian "Badger" Bates and tell stories that are central to Barkandji culture, including the story of the Seven Sisters.

What many people don't realise is that the gates were designed to be experienced alongside the artwork above them, with the transition between the two representing the journey from earth to sky, and from day to night.

This NAIDOC Week, take a few moments to watch the short video about Badger's work and discover more about the stories woven into Yirranma Place. You'll find it playing in Blue Gum Hall throughout the week.
