MCC Welfares Services began in 1999 through a simple request to Reverend Greg Smith:
“I am an HIV positive man. I suffer from night sweats and I need a double bed. I have been to two well-known benevolent institutions to ask for assistance and they told me, ‘we don’t look after your kind here, try somewhere else.’ Can you help me?”
Our answer was “YES.”
We didn’t know where we were going to fi
nd a bed – perhaps we would buy one? Miracles happen and so MCC Welfare Services began firstly as a “bed project” until today, providing as best we can, a wide range of household and white goods for those in need. All goods are donated through the general community, deceased estates, commercial organisations and generous individual donors. The need in the community continues to grow. To date MCC Welfare Services has assisted over 3000 people, some in dire need. We invite you to peek through the windows, walk through the doors and maybe even dance with us on the back deck.
