A special mention to a legend Pac McTigue on winning his well deserved Community Champion award recently.

Dear Paddy,

Thank you for making Keith's Closet possible. You were the first one to believe in me when many others asked, wtf I was talking about. From deciding what the closet would look like as you walked through IKEA, to buying the unit, and installing it was the stuff of dreams for me, and still is. But that wasn’t enough for you, you then donated your fully kitted van to us, so we could provide a mobile walk-in-wardrobe service to people accessing the mental health service, often the forgotten beautiful people in our society. As a result, our service continues to grow and has supported thousands of people across NSW. Your generosity and kindness holds no bounds Paddy.

You want nothing in return, even at times you feel embarrassed when I shout your name from the rooftops. You are the most humble human being I’ve ever met in my life and I feel truly blessed we’ve crossed paths. Thanks to your darling wife Karen Foley who I had the pleasure of working with as a mental health nurse and your cracking boy Shea. Behind every great man…ya know the rest.

Thank you will never come close but just know, you hold a very special place in my heart and in the fabric of Keiths Closet, now and always šŸ’šā˜˜ļø

Health Care in Secure Settings Conference 2026

I’m very honoured to be speaking about Keith’s Closet along with my two friends and colleagues Andrew and Danni from the Forensic Hospital at this year’s International Health Care in Secure SettingsĀ conference 2026.

This event explores the niche field of health care in custodial and forensic mental health settings so it promises to be a wonderful two days.

This must-attend conference will take place on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 July 2026 and we’ll be speaking on Thursday. The event is accessible in-person, at the ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour, or online. We will have our KC hub set up in the foyer so come and say hi šŸ‘‹

Last year, I was truly honoured to receive the Australian Mental Health Prize in the Community Hero category.
As you know, Keith’s Closet began with a simple idea. Creating a space where people could access clothing and essentials, restore confidence and feel a sense of dignity during difficult times.
Ā
Every day, I see again and again how small acts of kindness really do have huge impact.

That’s one of the main reasons I value the Australian Mental Health Prize. It highlights people who are making a difference in the lives of others, often without seeking recognition for themselves. The award takes pride of place on the shelf in our warehouse as a gentle reminder of our work. Behind the award, there is many people who make the magic happen every day. This award is for all those who turn up and want to support our cause.
Ā
Nominations for the 2026 Prize close next week on Friday 31 July.

If there’s someone in your community, workplace or network who is improving mental health outcomes for others, take a few minutes to nominate them.

✨ Happy Weekend from the Keith’s Closet family šŸ’™

As we are into the second half of the year, this weekend is a gentle reminder to check in with yourself.

Life can get busy, and it’s easy to keep pushing through without noticing how you’re really feeling. Whether this year has brought moments of joy, challenges, growth, or simply survival, remember that every step forward counts.

Take a moment to slow down. Get outside, catch up with someone you trust and enjoy being around, rest without guilt, or do something that fills your cup. Your wellbeing matters just as much as everything on your to-do list.

And if you’re finding things a little heavy right now, please remember, you don’t have to carry it all on your own. Reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

From all of us at Keith’s Closet, thank you for being part of our community. Whether you’ve donated, volunteered, partnered with us, or simply followed along the journey, you’re helping us remind people that no one has to walk alone.

Be kind to yourself this weekend šŸ’™
