On Saturday, Keith’s Closet was truly honoured to attend Charlotte’s Wish Gala Night. It was a night to remember, to celebrate, and to sit with the profound sadness of losing a beautiful young girl who died by su***de at just 12 years old. When Charlotte’s mum Kelly and dad Matt spoke, you could hear a pin drop. The silence was heavy, filled with people trying to comprehend the unimaginable, the loss of a daughter, sister, niece, cousin, or friend.
The heartbreak in the room was overwhelming, and the emotion carried well into the next day. I was humbled to be invited on stage alongside others to share our stories. Standing before 600 people, I spoke about my own journey and the work of Keith’s Closet. It was unexpected, but deeply meaningful to be included among those working to make a difference in the mental health space.
A heartfelt thank you to Spiro Nikoloudis from 2GB for guiding me through that moment with such kindness. His presence made it possible to speak when my heart felt like it was going to burst from the emotion in the room.
It was a night I will never forget, just as everyone present will carry it with them.
