This year, we had so many friendly and talented students join the Con, and we thought we could give a little insight into some of your peers and their music experiences as well as their personal taste in music! We may be 8 weeks into the semester, but it is never too late to make new friends.

BIG BIG thank you to all the first years who were bravely interviewed!

We’ve done it. The CSA is proud to present: the Conservatorium train station!

After many, many years of negotiations with Transport for NSW, we’re finally opening our very own Sydney Conservatorium train station on 1 April 2069 🚊🚊

This is expected to significantly cut down commute times for music students of the University of Sydney, as they no longer have to endure glute cardio workouts walking up Bridge street, or wait for ♾️ hours on the Macquarie St pedestrian lights.

Finally completing the shared vision of Henri Verbrugghen and John Bradfield, over 110 years later, this new station will be built as part of the City Circle line that already runs through the middle of the historic Greenway castle. Trains won’t stop, but their doors will briefly open so that students can dive on and off the station. Time to get your acrobatics in! 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🏃

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! 🏳️‍⚧️

Here are some of the trans and gender-diverse musicians and sound artists that have changed the landscape of music past and present.

The CSA will continue working to ensure that the Conservatorium is a welcoming and safe space for music students of all backgrounds and identities.

CENSUS DATE IS NEXT TUESDAY🗓️

The census date is the last date you will be able to finalise or withdraw from any units of study, finalise your residency status, suspend your studies, or discontinue your course without it affecting your grades or being financially liable for units of study. This means you must pay for all units in which you are enrolled after Census Date, and you will receive a discontinue fail if you discontinue a unit afterwards (but a DF does not affect your WAM).

This week would be a good time to speak to the programme leader for your degree if you have any questions.

If you have any questions or circumstances affecting your studies, undergraduates can contact the SRC Caseworkers for free, independent and confidential advice here:

Postgraduates can contact SUPRA Caseworkers for free here:

The Conservatorium is a place where everyone is welcome, and the Sydney Conservatorium Students’ Association always advocates for a safe and pleasant environment for music students of all backgrounds and identities.

To celebrate the upcoming Trans Day of Visibility on the 29th of March, we are providing legal s*x change forms, which you can pick up from the Conservatorium Common Room. The form can then be used for self-ID on the 29th at Pride Square from 11:00 to 13:00.

Please direct all further enquiries on self-ID to Pride in Protest or Q***r Action Collective (QuAC). You can also find more useful resources for trans and gender diverse people on this post.

Have you ever walked around USyd and heard a familiar tune coming from the bells of the Quad?

Yesterday, we had a tour with the University Carillonist and Organist, Titus Greyner — an alumnus of the Sydney Con — who showed us all around the Quad’s clocktower. 54 bells make up the University of Sydney War Memorial Carillon, dedicated to the 197 members of the University community lost in World War One.

Would you like to see the USyd Carillon?
