The Jack Thompson Foundation believes that Indigenous Australians in homelands need to build and own their own homes and infrastructure:
JTF’s mission is to help communities achieve this aim using “the living ground” ¬– the natural resource materials they have to hand in their own homelands. The ‘Living Ground’, refers to the natural resources that are available ‘On Country”, that can be used in c

onstruction of buildings. This could be for example: surface stone, timber, gravel or sand and clay for rammed earth structures. The ‘Living Ground’, is the key to culturally appropriate work and ongoing employment outcomes. The ‘Living Ground’ has sustained the local Indigenous populations for over 40,000 years. The Jack Thompson Foundation Way:

The 'Jack Thompson Foundation Way' is a two-way concept, the "Living ground” and “Two-way learning” the use of these concepts in all we do ensures respect and preservation of cultural values, both in the project community and in the country as a whole. We achieve this through -

- Two-Way Learning
- Discovering our common humanity
- Living & Learning together
- Respecting and Learning the Aboriginal way
- Individual respect
- Respect for law
- Respect elders
- Respect for family
- Our knowledge has to be relevant
- Our knowledge has to be presented to fit into an Aboriginal worldview
- Our knowledge has to fit into their belief systems


The Foundation ensures success of the projects it facilitates by following these guidelines and encouraging local aboriginal people to have ownership of their own projects.

There is a great deal of talk about Self Determination in Aboriginal remote lands. Great conversation piece but where does the capital come from for 1 homeland never alone 100,000 people . 12 years in the making soon that question will be answered and yes the voices right acros the Top End are backing this movement

There is a elephant in the room, a very large elephant. 40 to 60 thousand years people have occupied this land. Fact !
for 235 years white people have tried their best to create Indigenous Genocide. Highest rates of incarcerations anywhere in the western world. People in remote lands are dying faster than they are being born FACSHIA report 2011 in 65 years there will be no more indigenous in remote due to funerals outweighing births.
The Indigenous Affairs industry has service providers making the money. No Indigenous people ever make money or gain employment , they are not even counted as unemployed.
Why is there so many riots so much crime, in every community. When a nation oppresses its people white or black eventually people will fight back. The youth have had enough . you want answers look no further than teh status quo of oppresion we created and white folks are to blame is the elephant in the room . Blame the people at your own peril
Think 15 years of Howards intervention , then we had move everyone from country they have owned for thousands of years into Growth Towns except there is no growth other than service providers . We had Abbtt in the voice cry, I am over welcome to country" great well go back to where you came from

There has been billions of tax dollars spent on the Closing the in Indigenous disadvantage for the last 13 years . No Gap is closed in fact they are widening. The only Gap that will give first Nations parity with mainstream and close all gaps is the wealth Gap . Not our wealth First nations in remote lands

First Nations communities have experienced data being collected by researchers unethically. Better practices and relationships with communities can happen through ways of sharing such as yarning.

It is with great saddness from the JTF crew and Directors that we mourn the passing of we share of the sudden passing of Associate Professor Elizabeth Grant. Elizabeth Grant passed away peacefully in her sleep on 5th July 2022. Elizabeth worked tirelessly for Indigenous rights in the archhitecture in prisons to accomadate thier culture. A friend of all and a legend to us. We oay respects to her and her family.
