π Burwood Toastmasters Meeting Highlights
π
27 May 2026
There was plenty happening at our 27 May meeting, with five prepared speeches, evaluations, Table Topics, and a special Area Director report from Bruno.
It was a great chance to hear not only from our speakers, but also to reflect on how Burwood Toastmasters is going as a club β what we are doing well, the strengths we continue to build on, and the contribution Burwood makes across the District.
π€ Prepared Speeches
Tina gave us an interesting look at family and household structures in northwest Cambodia, exploring how gender roles and breadwinner patterns can vary across communities.
Johnny shared his journey from consulting to starting his own business, including the mindset shift, uncertainty and resilience involved in taking that step.
Rose reminded us that public speaking is not about being perfect β it is about serving the audience and focusing on what they need.
Jessy reflected on university, education and lifelong learning, encouraging members to recognise their strengths and keep growing through new opportunities.
Graham introduced many of us to the basics of pickleball in βTo Be Pickled or Not To Be Pickledβ, using a professionally crafted PowerPoint presentation that added visual style, clarity and strong audience appeal.
π Evaluations
Thank you to Derya, Diana, Graham, Shane and Jessy for their evaluations, with each speaker receiving something useful to take into their next speech.
π― Table Topics & Big Ears
Linda led a fun Table Topics session, with members thinking quickly and bringing plenty of humour to the room.
Tom and Bruno provided the Table Topics evaluations, and Johnny followed with Big Ears, adding another light-hearted part to the night.
π Area Director Report
Bruno, as Area 6 Director, shared his report on Burwood Toastmasters and recognised the clubβs strong meeting culture, welcoming atmosphere, member support and positive contribution to Area 6.
It was a proud moment for the club and a good reminder of the consistent work members put in to make Burwood such a warm, active and supportive place to learn.
A special thanks (π) to Bruno for his time as our Area 6 Director for the 2025-26 year. As a Burwood Club member itβs a highlight to see our members perform well in District leadership roles; including our member Nelly as the nearby Area 31 Director! π
