Happy World Thinking Day! 🎉

On February 22nd, World Thinking Day is celebrated. It is a time when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world celebrate the global Movement of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) by highlighting international friendships and connecting with one another globally to celebrate together.

It is an opportunity to learn and take action on global issues by supporting local communities alongside fundraising to support over 11.2 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.

This year is particularly special, as it marks 100 years of World Thinking Day! Since 1926, when it was first chosen as a day to celebrate international friendship at the fourth WAGGGS World Conference in the USA, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world have come together each year to honour the connections that make our Movement so unique.

Yesterday some of our Guides joined in the Greater Rivers Region Girl Guides event, celebrating with Girl Guides from across Western Sydney, the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains 🥳

Supporting our Local Wildlife 🦘🐨🦜

Last year the Celestial Guides worked together to support wildlife by sewing wildlife pouches to donate to the Animal Rescue Cooperative Craft Guild to be used by volunteer wildlife carers looking after injured wildlife!
For many Guides it was their first time using a sewing machine, but they did a great job working together and learning new skills! 🧵🪡✂️

We then had a special visit from our local WIRES volunteers and their friends 🦎 Lizzo the Blue Tongue Lizard and 🐦 Po the Cockatiel. They shared with us about their experiences as wildlife carers, told us some cool animal facts and explained how we can help to look out for wildlife in need 🐨

Looking for new adventures in the new year? 🔎✨

Winston Hills Girl Guides has groups for girls from ages 5 to 18 and volunteering opportunities for adults too!

Monday - 5-6yrs and 7-10yrs
Wednesday - 10-13yrs
Thursday - 14-17yrs

The programs are all about girls building their confidence and learning new skills in a fun and friendly environment. Winston Hills is a very active group who loves adventure!

Bush 2 Beach Jamboree 🌿🏖️

Over the last school holidays a group of Winston Hills Guides, Senior Guides and Leaders headed off to Jamboree 2025 - Bush to Beach - the national Girl Guide Jamboree in Murwillumbah, Northern NSW!

They had an amazing week at camp trying out rock climbing, arts and craft, damper making, STEM experiments and international activities at the activity zones, and then exploring even more on a race around town, and visits to Sea World, Outback Spectacular and the beach! The Senior Guides also got to choose their own adventure, one going horse riding and another sleeping overnight at Sea Life Aquarium!

Of course lots of friends were made and badges and SWAPs traded, and the week finished off with a fun-filled show day and dance party!

JOTA-JOTI 2025 📻🎙

Over the weekend Winston Hills Girl Guides participated in JOTA-JOTI! The Guides had the opportunity to speak to Guides and Scouts from around the world over the radio and the internet. We also tried out tin-can telephones, used walkie-talkies, tested our hand-eye coordination and tried lots of challenges and activities, including learning about braille, morse code, typewriters and how circuits work!

Recently the Winston Hills Celestial Guides visited our local SES Headquarters! 🛟🚨🦺

The night involved:
🛟 Learning about what the SES do
⛈️ Discussions of what to do in an emergency and what to pack in an emergency kit
🚨A tour of the headquarters and garage, including vehicles and equipment
🦺Feeling how heavy a life jacket loaded with equipment is
🚒 Getting to sit in the SES truck
🧯 Using a water fire extinguisher

Gang Show 2025 🎭

Bravo to the Winston Hills Girl Guides who performed in this year's Cumberland Gang Show - "Dare to Dream"!

Those in cast dazzled audiences with their singing, dancing and acting and those helping behind the scenes worked hard to make sure the cast shined!

Communicating on the Airwaves 📻🎙📡

Over the weekend we hosted our first afternoon for Girl Guides of all ages to learn about amateur radio and work on their Technology Trefoil 2 badge! The Guides did a mix of activities to learn all about amateur radio and technology and have been inspired to work towards gaining their amateur radio licence in the future!
