Domestic and family violence can take many forms, and not all of them leave visible marks.

It can involve controlling someone’s finances, monitoring their movements, isolating them from friends and family, threatening them, or using technology to control or intimidate them.

Understanding the different forms of abuse is an important part of recognising domestic and family violence and supporting those experiencing it.

At Bayside Women’s Shelter, we support women and children impacted by domestic and family violence with accommodation, practical assistance and connections to support services. 🧡

For many women and children, leaving violence can also mean leaving behind their home.

In 2024–25, around 117,000 people who had experienced family and domestic violence accessed specialist homelessness services across Australia. Nine in ten were women and children.

Behind every number is a person who needed somewhere safe to go, and support to work out what comes next.

At Bayside Women’s Shelter, we provide accommodation and practical support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Community support helps us continue being there when families need us most.
