Less than 3 weeks until we kick off our next online exercise program for women with breast cancer, led by the lovely Amy of Valere Health 🌟

The purpose of this program is to provide education on the importance of exercise across the breast cancer continuum and why it should be a standard part of recovery. Each session also contains an exercise component in which the exercise physiologist demonstrates how to do different types of exercise at home to aid in breast cancer rehabilitation e.g. short sessions of mobility, balance, pilates, home strength (resistance), and some aerobic training. Upon registration, each participant receives resistance bands which can be used to increase the physical challenge πŸ’ͺ

PBCF x Wild Klay πŸ‰

The Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundation is one that is very close to Kristie’s (of Wild Klay) heart for 2 reasons. Back in 2025, Kristie’s husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and 5 months later, Kristie was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her mission for Wild Klay revolves around raising awareness and funds for breast cancer and endometriosis research. Exercise is something that played a pivotal role in her cancer rehabilitation, so when she learned about the work that we do in funding structured exercise programs for people with these cancers, she knew that her mission and values aligned very closely with ours.

Kristie is busy working on a range of breast cancer awareness mugs where $10 from each mug sold will be donated to the PBCF. The first range – the β€˜Melon Mug’, will be available in late July via the online shop at www.wildklay.com. As a handmade product, there will be limited stock available in each online shop drop. To be one of the first to know when they are available, you can sign up for updates via the website.

"We need to see prescribed exercise as a medicine, as an important health intervention and not as a luxury," Oncologist Dr. Rosalie Stephens says.

We love to hear oncologists promoting the importance of exercise because we believe they are in one of the most influential positions to encourage their patients to partake in exercise during or following treatment. There is an abundance of evidence out there supporting the benefits of structured exercise for helping patients not only survive but also to recover from cancer. However, lack of funding is a major barrier to people accessing structured exercise programs. Health minister in NZ says he expects patients to be able to access the care they need and is seeking further information.

Studies are highlighting the benefits of guided exercise to prevent recurrence and even death.

We launched our first CAN-B Fit program in Padstow for women with breast cancer, led by Accredited Exercise Physiologist Angelique of Tambakis Physiotherapy 🌟

Angelique is a breath of fresh air and has infectious positive energy. Lots of smiles and laughter were observed today and it reminded me of how these programs are so much more than just exercise. They're an opportunity for joy, connection and support. Exercise truly is medicine β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Researchers at University of Sydney are conducting a breast cancer and exercise study and they need your help!πŸ”¬

A few weeks ago, we met with a team of researchers in the University of Sydney who asked to partner up with our foundation to help promote the recruitment of their breast cancer study. The aim of this study is to collaborate with individuals who have experience with breast cancer and to design a feasible exercise program for this cohort. There are 2 parts to this study and you can take part in either or both sessions. If you are not based in Sydney then session 1 (online) will be the most appropriate for you. Reimbursement will be given for each session you take part in πŸ€‘

Jeffrey is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and study researcher who is leading this study. He has an abundance of knowledge, kindness and enthusiasm and it was a pleasure to meet with him and his team recently. If you are interested in taking part in this study, I would encourage you to reach out to Jeffrey via [email protected] or 0426129540.

We wish Jeffrey and his team the best of luck and we can't wait to follow this exiting study!

Men, a simple conversation with your GP could mean everything!

This week is Men's Health Week, and the theme is 'See a GP'. Prostate Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, however, when early detected early, it is highly treatable. Speak with your GP about urinary symptoms, prostate cancer risk and whether PSA testing is appropriate for you.

Also, don't forget that men can get breast cancer too. Check out this post for the most common signs and symptoms to look out for.
