Eco-Democracy
Eco-Democracy is the best way to tackle climate change and was developed from the following criteria.
1. Planet Earth is very vulnerable. Astronauts have observed it is a small oasis in a huge barren harsh cosmos.
2. Climate change is the result of the industrial Revolution (IR) which started in Britain around 1750.
3. Population and pollution have exploded since then.
4. The IR has resulted in great scientific advancements but has been driven by polluting fossil fuels.
5. Fossil fuels have been over exploited and oil will run out first around 2070.
6. Coal fired electricity generation and deforestation are the two biggest emitters of CO2.
7. CO2 stays in the atmosphere much longer than other greenhouse gasses.
8. China (30%) and USA (15%) are the two biggest emitters of CO2.
9. Eco systems around the world are all linked due to wind and ocean currents.
10. Thus, countries of the world must unite in fighting climate change.
11. People living in large cities are becoming more and more out of touch with nature.
12. We must learn from hunter and gatherers (H&G’s) to live in harmony with nature.
13. Populations are now too large to live like (H&G’s). We must use their knowledge of nature coupled with modern science.
14. Democracy and capitalism are the most effective forms of government and business.
15. However, they must be controlled to prevent exploitation.
16. Eco-Democracy is designed to tax fossil fuel companies and subsidize companies using green energy.
17. It doesn’t involve carbon trading which is open to all sorts of exploitation
18. Eco-Democracy also involves:
- Doing away with planned obsolescence and producing durable long-lasting products using renewable energy.
- Regulating fabrics and clothing to ensure they are long lasting
- Stopping deforestation of old growth forests
- Subsidizing education and contraception in developing countries.
- Using permaculture and regenerative farming.
- Developing eco-friendly fish farms
- Investing in R & D for new technologies that replace fossil fuels and respect nature.
