Eco-Democracy
Eco-Democracy is the best way to tackle climate change and was developed from the following criteria.
1. Planet Earth is very vulnerable. Astronauts have observed it is a small oasis in a huge barren harsh cosmos.
2. Climate change is the result of the industrial Revolution (IR) which started in Britain around 1750.
3. Population and pollution have exploded since then.
4. The IR has resulted in great scientific advancements but has been driven by polluting fossil fuels.
5. Fossil fuels have been over exploited and oil will run out first around 2070.
6. Coal fired electricity generation and deforestation are the two biggest emitters of CO2.
7. CO2 stays in the atmosphere much longer than other greenhouse gasses.
8. China (30%) and USA (15%) are the two biggest emitters of CO2.
9. Eco systems around the world are all linked due to wind and ocean currents.
10. Thus, countries of the world must unite in fighting climate change.
11. People living in large cities are becoming more and more out of touch with nature.
12. We must learn from hunter and gatherers (H&G’s) to live in harmony with nature.
13. Populations are now too large to live like (H&G’s). We must use their knowledge of nature coupled with modern science.
14. Democracy and capitalism are the most effective forms of government and business.
15. However, they must be controlled to prevent exploitation.
16. Eco-Democracy is designed to tax fossil fuel companies and subsidize companies using green energy.
17. It doesn’t involve carbon trading which is open to all sorts of exploitation
18. Eco-Democracy also involves:
- Doing away with planned obsolescence and producing durable long-lasting products using renewable energy.
- Regulating fabrics and clothing to ensure they are long lasting
- Stopping deforestation of old growth forests
- Subsidizing education and contraception in developing countries.
- Using permaculture and regenerative farming.
- Developing eco-friendly fish farms
- Investing in R & D for new technologies that replace fossil fuels and respect nature.

Sustainable Eco-Democracy
Time has run out. The situation has become desperate. Look at the nightly news; massive deadly floods , huge cyclones and devastating bush fires and droughts all around the world. Planet Earth is rejecting what humans are doing to it. The polar ice caps are melting, and average world temperatures are going through the roof. We are very close to a tipping point whereby climate change will become out of control and unstoppable.

Yet some people continue to deny this is happening. The fossil fuel industry has been very successful in spreading fake news. It is easy to conclude that with modern technology the human race has largely conquered our planet. However, this is a total misconception. In reality we are very much at the mercy of nature. Our current industrialized system driven by fossil fuels not sustainable any longer. In any case these fuels (oil, coal and gas) will run out in the not-too-distant future.

Climate change is happening rapidly, much faster than scientists predicted and we must act now. Whilst for many people in developed countries the Industrial Revolution has provided the highest living standards in history, unfortunately it has also resulted in over exploitation of resources, overpopulation and pollution on a scale never before experienced.
Unless urgent action is taken climate change will make much of the planet uninhabitable.

It is obvious from the analysis in Little Blue Planet, that climate change is already well under way. (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B099XC1ZXX),

In recent years financial deregulation, globalization and extremely low interest rates, have exceeded the initial benefits they offered dragging people out of poverty. They are now causing havoc around the world by creating inequality, huge debt, out of control multinational companies, deforestation and rapidly rising CO2 levels. Governments must step up and take far greater control and rein in these excesses.

Eco-Democracy, has been developed as the best solution to climate change, based on analysis from each of the Chapters in Little Blue Planet. My next post will explain this further. Stay tuned....

RELIGIOUS BELIEFS RESPONSIBLE FOR MILLIONS OF DEATHS.

Growth has exploded over the past 270 years and world population is currently around 8 billion people.

Overpopulation is causing starvation in Africa particularly in the Sahel region, which stretches right across sub-Saharan Africa. Some 221 million people across 54 countries are facing acutely food-insecure conditions or worse – a 71 percent increase from 2019 (1).

Whilst wars and weather extremes are responsible for some of this, the main driving force behind overpopulation is the Catholic and Islamic religions. The Catholic Church is strongly anti-contraception and Islam encourages the belief children are a gift from heaven. Poorly educated populations are being taught “divine providence,” that God will provide, while population explodes, and famines increase in both number and intensity.

These religions are providing modern medicine which has lowered child deaths but resulted in an unsustainable population explosion and increasing famines, due to outdated religious beliefs and lack of contraception.

Of great concern is that the Catholic Church seems to be proud of this population growth, which it sees as growing its flock(2).

We must get back in touch with nature

It is very important that Westerners finally start listening to Aboriginal people. They lived in harmony with nature for some 60,000 years and could have continued for another 60,000 if left alone.

Since the start of the Industrial Revolution some 270 years ago Western society has largely sought to conquer nature rather than live in harmony with it. This cannot continue. Already the planet is not coping with what we are doing to it, with CO2 emissions running oil of control, oceans being fished out and polluted and forests being cut down.

A tipping point is close whereby climate change will be unstoppable and much of the planet will become uninhabitable.

With over 8 billion people now living on the world we can’t go back and live in harmony with nature like the aboriginals. Their lifestyle would not support us.

But we can learn from their respect for nature and start to learn how to look after the planet. We can stop cutting down forests, limit population growth and use green technology including wind and solar farms, panels and batteries plus EV’s.

What can be concluded from examining the search for meaning?

Throughout history, humans have sought to find meaning in their lives knowing everyone will one day die. From earliest of times when hunters and gatherers believed in animism (that everything has a spirit) through to modern monotheistic religions, people have been taught by mainstream religious leaders if they believe and obey without questioning, they will be rewarded in an afterlife, or if they disobey, they will be eternally punished. Other religions such as Buddhism and Sikhism believe actions in this life will determine how believers will be reincarnated in the next life.

Each religion claims theirs is the one and only true God.

In the 1600’s Galileo introduced the concept of scientific investigation and some of the closely held beliefs, particularly of the Catholic Church, were questioned. Since then, science has opened our eyes to the universe and discovered it is massive beyond our imagination and seems to have begun with a big bang some 13.7 billion years ago(1). But nothing is certain, and this estimate could change in the future. Current scientific thinking is that the big bang (or really a big expansion) started from an infinitely hot and dense point and inflated to where it is today(2). This process is calculated to be still ongoing.

Neither science nor religion can prove who or what made us or the universe. At the end of the day, life can have whatever meaning we wish to put on it. If nothing ever existed, I would not be writing this, and you would not be reading it. Descartes summarised it when he said ”I think therefore I am”. Thus, existence exists.

The question then becomes who or what made existence, or did it all just evolve out of nothing? As existence exists the argument that the universe evolved out of nothing would not seem to make sense. The existence of God or a creator cannot be proved but I would argue there is a universal life force that has existed forever. I doubt whether you or I could have designed a universe so massive and complex that even the smartest scientists and astrologers struggle to understand it.

Most religions can be criticised as being too narrow minded, controlling, advocating outdated beliefs such as miracles and demanding you must believe without questioning. Rather embracing Spiritualism offers a way of considering that there is something greater that connects all beings to each other and to the universe itself.

However, there is no finite answer. Search for whatever gives you peace and contentment. Spinoza philosophised, we can see the work of a higher power in nature and in the universe itself. So, love life, embrace Spiritualism, strive to be happy and look for the beauty that surrounds us everywhere. Treat life as an adventure, never stop learning, be kind others and keep asking questions.

PEOPLE ASK; HOW CAN I BELIEVE IN A GOD I CAN’T SEE?
SEE PICTURES OF GOD BELOW
Einstein always said he believed in the God of Spinoza.
Baruch de Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher who along with Rene Descartes is considered one of the great rationalists of 17th century philosophy during The Age of Enlightenment.
Spinoza :
God would say:
Stop praying.
What I want you to do is go out into the world and enjoy your life. I want you to sing, have fun and enjoy everything I've made for you.

Stop going into those dark, cold temples that you built yourself and saying they are my house. My house is in the mountains, in the woods, rivers, lakes, beaches. That's where I live and there, I express my love for you.
Stop blaming me for your miserable life; I never told you there was anything wrong with you or that you were a sinner, or that your sexuality was a bad thing. S*x is a gift I have given you and with which you can express your love, your ecstasy, your joy. So don't blame me for everything they made you believe.
Stop reading alleged sacred scriptures that have nothing to do with me. If you can't read me in a sunrise, in a landscape, in the look of your friends, in your son's eyes... you will find me in no book!

Stop asking me "will you tell me how to do my job?" Stop being so scared of me. I do not judge you or criticize you, nor get angry, or bothered. I am pure love.
Stop asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive. If I made you... I filled you with passions, limitations, pleasures, feelings, needs, inconsistencies... free will. How can I blame you if you respond to something I put in you? How can I punish you for being the way you are, if I'm the one who made you? Do you think I could create a place to burn all my children who behave badly for the rest of eternity? What kind of God would do that?
Respect your peers and don't do what you don't want for yourself. All I ask is that you pay attention in your life, that alertness is your guide.

My beloved, this life is not a test, not a step on the way, not a rehearsal, nor a prelude to paradise. This life is the only thing here and now and it is all you need.
I have set you absolutely free, no prizes or punishments, no sins, or virtues, no one carries a marker, no one keeps a record.
You are absolutely free to create in your life. Heaven or hell.
I can't tell you if there's anything after this life, but I can give you a tip. Live as if there is not. As if this is your only chance to enjoy, to love, to exist.

So, if there's nothing after, then you will have enjoyed the opportunity I gave you. And if there is, rest assured that I won't ask if you behaved right or wrong, I'll ask. Did you like it? Did you have fun? What did you enjoy the most? What did you learn?...
Stop believing in me; believing is assuming, guessing, imagining. I don't want you to believe in me, I want you to believe in you. I want you to feel me in you when you kiss your beloved, when you tuck in your little girl, when you caress your dog, when you bathe in the sea.
Stop praising me, what kind of egomaniac God do you think I am?
I'm bored being praised. I'm tired of being thanked. Feeling grateful? Prove it by taking care of yourself, your health, your relationships, the world. Express your joy! That's the way to praise me.

Stop complicating things and repeating as a parakeet what you've been taught about me.
What do you need more miracles for? So many explanations?
The only thing for sure is that you are here, that you are alive, that this world is full of wonders.
Here are some pictures of the God of Spinoza:
