The ACHS is an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of health care in Australia through continual review of performance, assessment and accreditation. Established in 1974, as the Australian Council on Hospital Standards, it is recognised as the leading health care accreditation body in Australia, and as an independent authority on the measurement and implementation of quality improvement systems. ACHS works with health care professionals, consumers, and government and industry stakeholders to develop and continually review health standards.

Do We Really Need Gloves? In our latest Member Spotlight, we learn how South West Healthcare used collaboration, education, and evidence-based practice to reshape attitudes towards glove use and support lasting behaviour change.

The 'Gloves On, Gloves Off’ campaign was developed to reduce inappropriate or overuse of non-sterile blue gloves and to improve hand hygiene.

Across 12 months, the initiative
📉 reduced glove use by 17%
🚮 kept 400,000 gloves from landfill
💨 reduced associated emissions
🦠 contributed to lower hospital-acquired infection rates.
