Find us Thursdays and Sundays 5:30pm at Newtown Station on unceded Gadigal land. We’re an all-volunteer mutual aid group, part of a global movement that shares free vegan meals as a protest to war and poverty. Food Not Bombs started as a small bake sale and protest in 1980 in Massachusetts. Today there are currently over 1,000 active, independent Food Not Bombs collectives across 65 countries. We
pick up surplus food that would otherwise go to waste from a local grocery store, and redistribute both groceries and freshly prepared hot meals at no cost. We’re not a charity, but a community dedicated to nonviolent direct action. We believe that food is a right, not a privilege. We live in a world which is fuelled by money and greed, so food will always be wasted. Massive reserves of food are stored and guarded while people starve. A lot of food is also dumped or destroyed. Because those in power want to maintain the ridiculously high prices people pay for food in order to line their pockets with more money. After all, food grows on trees doesn’t it? Food Not Bombs also picks up bread from bakeries. If you know of any fruit or vegetable shops, bakeries, wholefoods shops etc. that are looking for someone to take their surplus or day old produce, please let us know.
