These include caring for others, helping those in need, and acting with Humility, Integrity and Harmony. Freemasonry is a self development system

Freemasonry is founded on and practices three Grand Principles, these are:

Brotherly Love - Mateship and Camaraderie with other Masons beyond the walls of the Lodge

Relief - Caring for and supporting each other. Charity in the local community

Truth - That the Divine, Moral and Natural laws are with all certainty true.

Join us for the September Quarterly Communication of the United Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT, followed by the Installation of the Deputy & Assistant Grand Master and Investiture of Grand Lodge Officers. Ladies and Guests are invited to attend the Installation.

One of the great principles of Freemasonry is Relief, alongside Brotherly Love and Truth. Yet relief in Freemasonry has never simply meant making a donation, writing a cheque or supporting a fundraiser. At its heart, relief is about recognising when another person needs support and choosing to do something meaningful about it.

The century-long relationship between Freemasons and A Start in Life demonstrates what that principle can achieve. For students facing financial hardship, geographical isolation or difficult family circumstances, assistance can mean the difference between continuing their education and walking away from it. But the article highlights something equally important: sometimes the greatest benefit is knowing that someone cares enough to ask how you are going.

Charity has always been an important principle of Freemasonry, but Masonic charity is about much more than simply making a donation. It is about identifying genuine community needs and providing support that can make a practical and lasting difference.

Freemasons on the Central Coast have demonstrated this through their ongoing support of Soldiers Beach Surf Life Saving Club. A donation of more than $13,000 last year, followed by a further $7,000 this year, means that Masons have contributed approximately $20,000 to the club in just two years. Since becoming a sponsor, that support has grown to more than $60,000.

For Masons, charitable work provides an opportunity to put the principles taught within Freemasonry into practice. For the wider community, it demonstrates that Freemasonry remains actively engaged in helping communities become safer, stronger and better connected.

Like the young rider, every mason is called to exemplify steadfastness, humility, and determination. The poem reminds us that true manhood is not found in the ease of one’s path, but in the courage with which one rides the steep descent.

Perhaps the most remarkable quality displayed by the young rider is his humility. He never boasts about his abilities or demands recognition. Instead, he allows his actions to speak for him. This mirrors one of Freemasonry's most enduring teachings—that genuine merit is demonstrated through service, integrity, and quiet example rather than public acclaim.

There are only days to go until this special combined gathering of the United Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT and the United Grand Lodge of Victoria in Albury.

Hosted by the United Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT, the United Grand Lodge of Victoria will conduct a re-enactment of the historic Ceremony of Consecration—offering attendees an opportunity to witness a meaningful and inspiring part of our shared Masonic tradition.

One of the greatest strengths of Freemasonry is that it encourages Masons to turn good intentions into meaningful action. The Grand Master's Sleepout wasn't simply about experiencing one uncomfortable night outdoors. It was about standing in solidarity with people facing hardship every day while raising funds and awareness to make a genuine difference.

Across New South Wales and the ACT, Masons travelled hundreds of kilometres, organised events, delivered supplies and gave up their time because helping others mattered more than convenience.

That willingness to act is one of the defining qualities of Freemasonry. It teaches that compassion should be visible, practical and consistent. Whether someone slept outside, flew through the night delivering beanies, helped organise a fundraiser or simply supported those taking part, every contribution became part of something much larger than any individual.

It's easy to talk about helping others. It's much harder to step outside your comfort zone and do something meaningful. That's exactly what happened during the Grand Master's Winter Sleepout 2026. Across New South Wales and the ACT, Masons gave up the comfort of a warm bed to spend a night in the cold, standing in solidarity with people experiencing homelessness.

Grand Master's Sleepout wasn't about pretending to understand homelessness. It was about creating awareness, encouraging empathy, and raising vital funds for organisations making a real difference. That commitment had already been demonstrated in 2025 when Freemasons NSW & ACT made the largest charitable donation in their history—$150,000 to the Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

The Winter Sleepout built on that momentum, proving that charity within Freemasonry isn't limited to writing cheques. It is about giving time, energy, leadership, and personal commitment. When Masons work together, their collective efforts create lasting benefits for communities across the state while reminding everyone involved that genuine compassion requires action.

It's remarkable that Masons from 26 different countries can gather in one place, speaking different languages and representing different cultures, yet feel an immediate sense of connection. That was the spirit of ANCOM 2026 in the Philippines, where the United Grand Lodge of NSW & ACT joined delegations from around the world to celebrate the values that unite Masons worldwide.

Freemasonry has never been confined to a single lodge or even a single country. It is built on friendships that cross borders, ideas that are freely shared, and values that are instantly recognised wherever Masons meet. Every Grand Lodge has its own customs and traditions, but the principles of brotherhood, respect, and service create a common bond that makes every Mason feel at home, no matter where in the world they are.
