Congratulations Micaela Sahhar!

Over the past three years, Sweatshop has been deeply honoured to collaborate with Micaela on numerous campaigns and initiatives, which seek freedom and justice for the people of Palestine. As one of Australia's most vital and innovative new writers, Micaela has provided love, wisdom and expertise to our growing community of diverse storytellers.

Last night, Micaela won the Non-Fiction Award at the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards for her debut masterpiece: Find Me at the Jaffa Gate: An Encyclopaedia of a Palestinian Family.

This stunningly lyrical book is now a cornerstone text in the growing corpus of Palestinian-Australian literature; offering an intimate, intersectional and intergenerational experience that spans from river to sea.

As ongoing atrocities and crimes against humanity continue to plague the people of Palestine, it is more important than ever that we support and amplify the own-voices histories and narratives of Palestinian writers and scholars.

Sweatshop Literacy Movement is immensely proud of Micaela’s success, and we strongly recommend Find Me at the Jaffa Gate to every Australian reader.

Please visit your local bookstore or library to order a copy today.

Congratulations Sheree Joseph!

Sheree has been a member of Sweatshop Literacy Movement for the past ten years. Over that time, we have watched her blossom into one of Australia’s most interesting, sophisticated and charismatic new writers. Sheree's impressive body of work has appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC, SBS, Overland, Russh, Junkee and The Everywoman. She has also published her fiction in several acclaimed Sweatshop anthologies, including Sweatshop Women, edited by Winnie Dunn, and Love, edited by Shirley Le.

As a proud descendant of the Lebanese diaspora, Sheree has also been a fearless and uncompromising advocate for human rights and free speech, both here and abroad.

This August, Sheree will finally celebrate the release of her long-awaited memoir: Juicy. Published by Pantera Press, this courageous debut is a simultaneously heartwrenching and hilarious examination of the modern expectations that women must confront in their everyday lives: from the social and cultural pressures to ‘start a family’ to the contemporary work-life collision within a capitalist structure.

Sweatshop could not be prouder of Sheree’s incredible achievements and immense talent, and we cannot wait for this important new book to hit the shelves. Please visit our linktree for more information and pre-orders:
