Most of us care about saving water at home, but figuring out what to actually do can be the hard part. Our Water Night research found 91% of Australians say saving water matters, even when it rains, yet almost half aren’t sure how to improve their water saving habits.

World Water Day is a good reminder that small choices at home add up. You don’t have to change everything at once, sometimes it starts with knowing what to look for when you shop. Choosing water wise products is one easy step in the right direction.

When you’re shopping in store or online, Spot the Drop and look for the Smart Drop Certified logo. It’s a simple way to take the guesswork out of finding water wise products for your home. If you’re innovating in water efficiency or manufacture/supply water efficient products or services, here’s the 5 step process to apply for Smart Drop Certified.

1️⃣ Check eligibility. Applications must fall within eligible categories (e.g. watering, leaks, greywater, pool & spa, garden, turf, plumbing, bathroom, cleaning, car, rainwater, analytics, glasswashers, services)

2️⃣ Verify your evidence. Evidence must meet four criteria:
✅ Water saving
✅ Fit for purpose
✅ Meets regulations and standards
✅ Environmentally sustainable

3️⃣ Prepare what’s needed. Gather evidence to independently verify claims (testing, case studies, comparative reports), product/service details and photos, company details, two references, and supporting PDFs.

4️⃣ Complete the application form (Parts 1–4): company and licensing details, product OR service certification, referee details (2 referees), and final declaration (read Terms & Conditions before submitting).

5️⃣ After submission: application is reviewed for completeness, an application fee invoice is sent, and once payment is received the application is reviewed by the Expert Panel.
