A is a launchpad to independence ๐Ÿš€

For young people aged 16-24 facing homelessness, it offers up to two years of safe housing and 1:1 coaching in exchange for a commitment to their education and career.

The result? 80% exit into permanent housing, work, or study, and 87% leave confident in reaching their life goals.

KD put it simply: โ€œThrough Foyer I found structure, mentorship, accountability and opportunity. Most importantly, I found a safe environment where my dreams actually mattered.โ€

โ€œI left ready to take on the world beyond Foyer.โ€

Caitlyn moved into the Shepparton Education First Youth Foyer in 2016, and lived there for a year and nine months. She finished her VCE, got accepted to uni and started working during that time.

Almost 10 years since she left the Foyer, Caitlyn says that for her it was so much more than a safe place to live, it was a life changing experience.

Every young Victorian facing homelessness deserves that same opportunity.

The Victorian FoyerInvest Working Group is calling on decision-makers to fund six new Youth Foyers across Victoria, creating life-changing support for 1,600 more young Victorians ๐Ÿš€

A safe place to live is critical, but young people need more than a roof to build an independent future. Beautifully put Caitlyn! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

"Young people don't want to work." We hear it all the time. Our data tells a different story.

When we surveyed young people in Youth Foyers:
โœ… 90% already know the field they want to work in - community services, health, education and trades
โœ… 9 in 10 want substantial, ongoing work:
โœ… 52% of those already working want more hours but can't get them - double the rate for young people nationally
โœ… Every single one had heard of training pathways that could help get them work ready.

So what's actually standing in the way? Practical stuff:
๐ŸšŒ Transport and travel costs
๐Ÿ‘• Work clothes and equipment
๐Ÿ“‹ Pre-employment checks
๐Ÿ’ธ Study costs, burnout and low pay

Youth Foyers already get great employment outcomes but if we can overcome some remaining barriers, we think results can be even stronger.

Together with YCareers, and backed by the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation, weโ€™re designing a pilot to connect young people in Foyers to the jobs of the future with employers who understand how to help them succeed.

๐Ÿ“ธ Snapshots from our recent workshop with Y Careers, VFFF and employers including ANZ and Coles.

$300 million in new grant funding has just been unlocked by the Commonwealth Government to fast-track 500+ homes for young people facing homelessness and families escaping domestic violence. ๐Ÿ โœจ

This money will fund projects with proposals already lodged with the Housing Australia Future Fund's Crisis and Transitional Program, including Youth Foyers and other supported housing models.

Sienna, Foyer Ambassador and former Port Adelaide Foyer resident shared what this investment meant to her in Canberra this morningโ€ฆ

โ€œA Foyer gave me more than a place to live, it gave me somewhere to begin. Thatโ€™s what this investment will give to someone else.โ€

We're proud to have stood alongside government, sector partners, the Home Time campaign, and young leaders with lived experience to push for this moment. ๐Ÿ™Œ

โ€œIโ€™m no longer surviving the world, but finally living in it.โ€

KD, Foyer Ambassador and current Foyer Central resident was at the Woden Education First Youth Foyer today with Co-CEO, Corin Moffatt as the Albanese Government committed $300 million to 520 homes for young Australians facing homelessness - including new Youth Foyers.

Young people experience the highest rate of homelessness of any age group in our country. These young people need options, from crisis accommodation to longer term options like Youth Foyers that support them at every stage of their journey - and todayโ€™s announcement acknowledges this.

Today came from young people with lived experience, communities, service providers and government working together - with young people like KD trusted to shape the solutions.

"If I've been able to turn things around just by being trusted and having support alongside me on the journey, imagine the other 40,000 young people who could do that as well."

๐Ÿ“ธ Foyer Ambassador, KD, with Federal Minister for Housing and Homelessness, Clare O'Neil.
