PART 1

On 2 March 2026, the Muslim Legal Network (NSW) was honoured to host its annual Ramadan Iftaar Dinner — an evening that brought together members of the broader legal profession in the spirit of reflection, unity, and mutual respect.

We were privileged to hear from two captivating speakers, The Honourable Justice Phillip Boulten SC and Dr Ghena Krayem who shared profound insights and powerful messages that inspired all in attendance and filled the atmosphere with a strong sense of community, respect, and shared commitment to the rule of law. Justice Boulten’s speech addressed the needs of vulnerable communities and the responsibility of our legal profession in addressing those needs. Dr Krayem’s speech addressed the issues faced by the broader Muslim community and insights on how Muslim legal professionals should navigate these difficult times, with a heartfelt personal reflection.

The event fostered a strong sense of shared purpose, reminding us of the enduring value of community within the profession.

We were delighted to see an overwhelming response and a remarkable turnout from members across the legal community from a broad range of backgrounds and disciplines, including members of the Judiciary, Academics, members of the NSW Bar, members of the Law Society of NSW, members of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Lawyers, Law Students, and more.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our generous sponsors and to all who attended and contributed to making the night such a memorable one.

The Muslim Legal Network (NSW) is proud to announce that Birchgrove Legal is once again sponsoring this year’s Annual Ramadan Iftar Dinner as a Gold Sponsor.

Birchgrove Legal is a specialist Australian law firm advising on complex commercial, regulatory and governance matters; and one built on conviction.

Clients typically engage Birchgrove Legal at points of transition or risk: entering the Australian market, acquiring or disposing of significant assets, managing regulatory exposure, responding to disputes, or ensuring governance arrangements are fit for purpose. In these moments, what's needed is advice that is clear, proportionate and capable of standing up to scrutiny over time. The firm’s role is to give clients the confidence to proceed by identifying risk, structuring appropriately and supporting informed decision-making.

At the heart of how Birchgrove Legal does that is what is called “the Birchgrove Way”: senior lawyers with tier one expertise who immerse themselves in their clients' world. They do the trench work. They understand the commercial reality, the risks, the ambitions, and they have skin in the game right alongside you.

Birchgrove Legal acts for private capital, foreign investors, founders, institutions, employees and not-for profit organisations. Their work spans FIRB and foreign investment, corporate structuring, major property and commercial transactions, litigation, employment, and governance; and the firm has advised on matters well in excess of half a billion dollars.

What drives Birchgrove Legal most, though, is the track record they’ve built in service of our community - advising schools, charities, associations and institutions doing meaningful work across Australia. It's also the cohort of lawyers Birchgrove Legal is growing: sharp, commercially minded, deeply committed people who want to practise law with rigour, with care, and with genuine investment in the outcome.

Birchgrove Legal is selective in the work they take on and deliberate in how they grow because they believe clients who trust them deserve that level of commitment.

Birchgrove Legal will once again be promoting the “BG Scholarship”, an exciting program targeted at young law students, at the event.

Thank you Birchgrove Legal for your continued support.

The Muslim Legal Network (NSW) was honoured to host this year’s Islamic Service for the Opening of Law Term at Lakemba Mosque, welcoming members of the judiciary and the broader legal profession in a spirit of reflection and community.

In attendance were Honourable members of judiciary including the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, District Court, Local Court members of The Law Society of NSW, New South Wales Bar Association and Judicial Commission of NSW.
