Back at the Animal Liberation Sanctuary, Kopan Monastery, Nepal.
This is Lobsang the fortunate buffalo who was rescued from the butcher with two others. It’s not always easy to distinguish between them. Lobsang is the most curious and yet least assertive. Ngawang is the most confident, Jampal mostly keeps to himself but his friendliness can be a bit scary- horns are standard play items for these boys! Bodhicitta, named by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, is getting very big but in equal measure quite placid. He doesn’t mind a neck massage. Kalden the bull thinks he’s the boss. Well, perhaps we won’t argue with that.

Today, ANZAC Day, in Australia & New Zealand, we now only remember the humans who suffered but also the countless animals, as is often the case with war anywhere in the world, including current wars & conflicts. the following article is about Australian wildlife smuggled as mascots by soldiers with them overseas. It is quite distressing if you know anything about caring for wildlife & think about how these individual animals would have suffered, no doubt unbeknownst to their human companions much of the time

Kangaroos, a kookaburra and even a Tasmanian devil were smuggled overseas by Aussie soldiers during World War I, not just as pets but as symbols of home.

Some good news coming at last for wildlife in Australia. Please don’t use poisons (or anything lethal) to kill creature.

The federal chemical regulator has ruled that some of Australia's most popular over-the-counter rat baits will be taken off supermarket shelves, but experts say domestic and industry pest control is still viable.

It’s always so heartbreaking & tragic seeing animals caught up in wars, whether as “service” animals or just caught up trying to survive on conflict zones. In Australia, at least, today is a day nationally designated to reflect on these creatures. 💕💕

On 24 February 2026, we pause… not just for the soldiers whose names fill our history books, but for the animals whose hoofbeats, pawprints and wingbeats echo quietly behind them. 🐾

Today is War Animal Day.

From the thunder of horses on foreign soil, to the steady loyalty of military working dogs, to pigeons carrying life-saving messages across battlefields, animals have served beside our diggers with unwavering courage. They did not choose the uniform. Yet they wore it with honour.

At the Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation, we remember them.
We honour them.
And we work to ensure their stories are never forgotten.

Purple poppies bloom for them. 💜

This War Animal Day, take a moment to reflect, share their stories, wear your purple poppy, and stand with us as we continue our mission to establish lasting memorials here in Australia and overseas.

Lest We Forget.

Please follow the link in the Animals Australia post & voice your opposition to this pig farm extension

URGENT: A Victorian pig farm with a documented history of animal cruelty is seeking approval to significantly expand its operations.

The proposal would allow thousands more pigs to be bred and confined in factory farm conditions for profit. This comes despite investigations by Farm Transparency Project exposing violent treatment of piglets at this facility, including the alleged sexual assault of a sow.

Campaspe Shire Council is considering this application right now, and councils are required to consider the volume and substance of community feedback. Please have your say now: https://animalsaus.co/4k1h4Dj
