Australian Brontë Association

Australian Brontë Association The Australian Brontë Association is a literary society devoted to the study and enjoyment of the Brontë family. In some years we have a weekend conference.

The Australian Brontë Association meets approximately every two months at the Castlereagh Hotel, Sydney. At each meeting a talk is given on some aspect of the Bronte's life and works or the world in which they lived. The ABA is independent of the (UK) Brontë Society but it grew out of a group of Australian members of the Brontë Society and we still maintain strong links with the parent body. The A

ustralian Representative of the Brontë Society is a member of the Australian Brontë Association. The current President of the ABA is Sarah Burns.

Anne Harbers: THE BRONTËS - ART & HOME
The three remarkable Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë authored some of the best- known novels of 19th century English literature - including Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Both Sydney and Melbourne have recently featured theatre productions associated with Brontë characters. Their own life stories are compelling in themselves. In this talk we will expand beyond their novels to look at their home, Haworth Parsonage, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Moors and how its location influenced their writing. Also significant are the portraits that have been associated with each of them, and the art they themselves created.
Anne Harbers is an independent scholar, art historian & speaker. She holds a Master of Arts from Sydney University.

Please join us for this presentation and lunch afterwards at The Eternity Cafe Town Hall Arcade. Any questions, please ask Annette.🙂

Dedicated in 1947: our memorial to writers Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë, which you can find in Poets' Corner.

The memorial was updated last year to add the diaereses (the two dots over the ‘e’ that indicate the word has two syllables) which were missing from the literary sisters' surname when the memorial was originally unveiled.
