I arrived in Australia aged 26 in 1996 with nothing,
I left in 1997 with nothing.
I came back in 1998 with nothing and got a job with David Tudehope, for a year then went to MCI Worldcom.
In 2000 I left to live in Japan with nothing and came back in 2002... with nothing.
Australia really is a lucky country. Or was back then
I've been married, bought and paid off 2 homes before 2005, had a beautiful daughter in 2003 then in 2006 took my $500k divorce settlement, moved to the Eastern Suburbs and imported Chloe, Miu Miu and Balenciaga handbags and shoes..
Proper wa**er!
I lost the lot and had to get a job again.
I closed a massive deal with Bravura Solutions, (can you remember Neil Broekhuizen ?)
C&W pulled big deal clause on me and never paid the $1m commission, I got fired for starting a NaaS competitor. mobsource .
After getting sacked, I did a mobsource deal with Michael Harte then lost the term sheet with Mark Carnegie - had to get a job again!
Talk about living on the pitch...
That job was with Aruba Wireless, I closed the Westfield wifi deal and then got into the charity space to help Feel the Magic.
I introduced them to The Growth Project in 2015 and Monica Saunders - Weinberg fell in love with helping grieving kids and splashed her cash to help them get going properly. .. Pre magic?
I fumbled around, losing jobs for 3 years before finally leaving ExtraHop in 2019 to kickstart properly.
Then Covid hit.
On Sunday I leave Australia to scale in the UAE
I have no assets, no stocks, no shares, no properties and no rich parents coming to bail me out..
Just a bootstrapped self funded software platform and a powerful community of 3500 meetmagic supporters in 5 countries who have helped give almost $2m to various charities like Starlight Children's Foundation Australia.
Having just launched the "Leadership Matters" book with 50 execs and set up an incredible masterclass with Joe Sullivan I leave Australia..only not with nothing,
But the richest man on the planet and nothing as one of my best friends.
Thank you to all of you who played your part in the early days.
You know who you are.
