The Bass Hill RSL sub-Branch have a RSL Auxiliary. The purpose of the Auxiliary is to raise funds for the charitable purpose of the RSL. This ensures the veterans, both serving and former serving, who are struggling either medically or socially, to be assisted.
RSLs used to have a Womens’ Auxiliaries but they were disbanded and their members were transferred to the RSL Auxiliary.
Our Bass Hill sub-Branch Auxiliary raise funds through their monthly bus trips which they pay themselves to go, and through raffles.
They have a lunch every month together at the Chester Hill RSL Club bistro where they hold informal discussions together.
At the moment there are only ladies and the two male drivers as we take our 12 seat bus and Chester Hill - Carramar sub-Branch bus where we can fit walkers.
Our ladies have a good time on the bus trips. They take it in turns supplying morning tea and a little raffle prize.
We then go from morning tea to a club somewhere and people buy their own lunch.
As I said,back by 3pm.
We are looking for new members. If interested give me a ring. Gary Roser, Honorary Secretary of Bass Hill RSL sub-Branch, 0409 919 364

Hello Members friends from Whakatane New Zealand.
Today, Thursday 18 August, 2022, I was fortunate to attend Vietnam Memorial Day at Whakatane Returned Association Club.
A lovely Service by the Vietnam Veterans.
The address was given by Gordon who served in Vietnam, Timor Leste and Afghanistan. A brilliant speaker who spoke about the importance of the New Zealand Government changing the name from Long Tan Day to Vietnam Memorial day to cover all of the battles and scurmissions which occurred in the Vietnam War.
Gordon gave an example of an incident where a platoon of 25 Kiwis came across 300 North Vietnamese regulars and how the experience panned out. Fire support called in with 5 helicopter gun ships who did their bit and it was left to the soldiers to fix bayonets to complete the attack. A truly brave experience by New Zealand soldiers that needed to be included with Long Tan and many other events. That is why the name of the day needed to be changed.
The other point Gordon got across was the same as we in New South Wales. Membership. The need to get our younger Defence personnel into the RSA. As I said, the same problem we are having.
I met a great bunch of blokes at Whakatane. And was received as a brother.
A number of veterans have family in Australia. I have invited them to attend our General Meeting when visiting as our guests.
Gavin Nicol, welfare/pension officer for their RSA, also a Vietnam Vet allowed me an interview yesterday and explained their system in NZ which support their veterans, similar to our DVA. They have similar trouble with their claims as we do.
I have posted some pics of their day which was held inside due to inclement weathe

Our Story

Bass Hill RSL Sub-Branch was founded in 1953. RSL Clubs were created in communities across Australia to provide a venue for current and ex-serve personnel and their families to enjoy a safe and comfortable place to gather, enjoy each other’s company, have a meal, and a drink.

Clubs also serve as a place of remembrance for the contribution and sacrifice of all Australia Defence personnel. We continue the traditions of Remembrance Day and Anzac Day in the spirit of commemorating the lives of the fallen; both men and women, in past and ongoing wars and conflicts which Australia was and is involved in. Lest We Forget.

Our Objectives:

  • Provision of effective and efficient management of the League's assets and resources for the benefit of its members and the serving members of the ADF.
