Every pair of shoes in Martin Place belongs to someone. A woman or child killed by domestic and family violence in the past 12 months.

On Wednesday 25 November, we’ll stand for them.

SECC is one of 51 organisations in the NSW Vigil Collective. At midday, each name will be read aloud and a flower laid in their honour. Tim Minchin will perform.

This work doesn’t stop when the vigil ends. Our casework team works with women across Sydney’s south east, planning for safety, finding housing and rebuilding. We continually receive calls for help.

Some are still living with violence. Some left years ago and still carry it. We walk with both.

Our 2025–2026 Annual Report is here.

Our new Annual Report gives you a look at what happened at SECC over the past year, from supporting families and young people to caring for older people, strengthening our community and being there when people need a little extra help.

Inside, you’ll meet some of the people behind the numbers and hear from the staff, volunteers, Board, partners and supporters who make this work possible.

A few highlights from the year:

🌱 Supporting local families, children and young people to feel connected and supported

🏠 Helping older people remain independent, connected and cared for at home

🥫 Providing practical support through The People’s Pantry and our wider community programs

💜 Walking alongside people experiencing domestic and family violence

🤝 Building connection through volunteers, social groups, activities and community events

And behind every number in our Annual Report is a person.

A person who came through our doors.
A volunteer who gave their time.
A staff member who listened.
A supporter who gave what they could.
A community that was there for each other.

We’re looking for a fridge for a local SECC client who's in dire need of one.

Good quality fridges can be surprisingly hard to come by, even when we reach out to other local charities and services. So we’re putting the call out to our community.

Here's what helps:

1️⃣ 👉 Say it once. One calm sentence, then stop talking.

2️⃣ 👉 Warn before the switch. "5 more minutes, then the iPad goes off."

3️⃣ 👉 Name the feeling. "You're feeling angry because the game finished." Then wait.

4️⃣ 👉 Keep your voice low. When yours goes up, theirs follows.

5️⃣ 👉 Same response, every time. Kids push less when they know what's coming.

Big news for our Hub. We've received a $10,000 Australia Post Community Grant for Coffee, Connection & Community.

Many people who come to the Hub are dealing with financial hardship, caring responsibilities, disability or unemployment. They often express feelings of loneliness and disconnection.

You've told us things like practical help, as well as friendship, connection and a place where you feel welcome.

This grant lets us offer:

🫶 Weekly social catch-ups over coffee
🫶 Wellbeing workshops
🫶 Community lunches
🫶 A volunteer buddy program

Sometimes a seat at the table and a familiar face make all the difference.
