We would like to raise awareness about an important matter ahead of the 2026 Australian Census, with Census Night taking place on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.

When completing your Census, you will be asked about the language(s) spoken at home. We encourage every Sindhi household to select or write “Sindhi” as the language spoken at home.

Why this matters

Census data helps the Australian Government understand the country’s rich cultural and linguistic diversity. By recording “Sindhi” accurately, we ensure that our language and cultural identity are properly recognised and counted. This information supports better recognition, community services, policy development, and future planning for the Sindhi community.

We kindly ask you to:

Salam Sangat,

As the President of Sindhi Sangat Australia (SSA), I express my deep concern regarding the recent statements and proposals advocating the creation of new administrative units within the Province of Sindh.

The unity, historical identity, and territorial integrity of Sindh are fundamental principles that must remain inviolable. Any proposal or political initiative aimed at dividing Sindh, altering its historical boundaries, or creating separate administrative units within the province is unacceptable.

Sindh is not merely an administrative province; it is one of the world’s oldest living civilizations, with a rich history, unique language, vibrant culture, and distinct identity spanning thousands of years. Its territorial integrity is an essential part of Pakistan’s federal structure and deserves to be fully respected and protected.

I urge all political leaders, elected representatives, policymakers, and public institutions to exercise responsibility and refrain from statements or actions that may create division or uncertainty regarding the territorial integrity of Sindh. National unity is strengthened through constitutional values, mutual respect, and the recognition of the rights and identities of all federating units.

As President of Sindhi Sangat Australia, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to the unity and integrity of Sindh. The historical identity, cultural heritage, and territorial boundaries of Sindh are non-negotiable. I stand in solidarity with Sindhis around the world and remain committed to supporting peaceful, democratic, and constitutional efforts to preserve and protect Sindh for future generations.
