300 million reasons to celebrate! It is exciting that Australia has joined our mission to double the number of solar homes by 2030 by removing policy barriers. Now is the time for other governments to follow their example.

We’re witnessing a revolution in energy, as people across the world build the world’s fastest-growing power plant on their roofs.

This is homegrown energy that people control. Better yet, it is renewable and affordable.

Solar Citizens CEO Heidi Lee Douglas is at PreCOP in Fiji and is connecting with Pacific Island delegates - here is Mosese Lovalova, who works on the Small Grants Program with the UNDP Pacific Office - providing grants to community groups and schools to install solar power. He says the 300 Million Solar Homes initiative, that Solar Citizens is part of, is 'a great idea'. The whole Pacific needs to become electrified!

More on how the extended SRES rebate for big roofs will work in Renew Economy:
"Designed to capture the “missing middle” of Australia’s rooftop solar potential, with an estimated 80 gigawatts (GW) of untapped capacity believed to exist on the nation’s factories, warehouses, farming sheds and large industrial premises."
"...under the expanded SRES, save about $68,000 on the installation cost of 250kW solar system, and a further $50,000 a year on reduced energy bills."

Federal rooftop solar rebate officially opens to systems sized between 100 kW and 1 MW, extending a roughly 20 per cent discount to farms, factories and all sorts of businesses in-between.

Aussie homes and businesses are embracing renewable technology at record rates!

In the first half of 2026 over 180,000 rooftop solar systems and over 275,000 home batteries were installed.

These are record breaking numbers that show progress in action.

Aussies are just getting on with it and we will too.

Australian households installed a record amount of rooftop solar and home batteries in the first half of 2026 🎉

Our new Rooftop solar and storage report, January to June 2026, shows that:

☀️ A record-breaking 1.89 GW of rooftop solar was installed in the first half of 2026, 30 per cent more than the preceding six months, as households flock to cheap, reliable solar energy.

🔋 More than 276,000 home batteries were installed, 52 per cent more than in the previous six months, as Australians seek to store solar power on the back of the government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

We are in a household solar boom, driven by demand from everyday Australians.

More than 4.5 million Australian homes and small businesses have a rooftop solar system and more than 700,000 have a battery installed, while electric vehicle sales have also accelerated.

We now have more rooftop solar capacity in Australia than the capacity of all our remaining coal-fired power stations combined.

The historic growth in household renewables is a win for both consumers and the country - delivering value and reliability for Australians and greater security for our nation's energy supply.
