📣 Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (15 June).

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day highlights the need for people and communities everywhere to act together against the abuse of older people.

It is estimated that one in six older Australians experience, or are at risk of, some form of elder abuse and sadly many instances of this abuse occur within families.

Elder abuse can happen in many forms, including financial abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, social isolation and coercive control. Often, the signs aren't obvious. That's why awareness matters.

By learning to recognise the signs and starting conversations — families, caregivers, service providers, communities, and all levels of government — can all play a role in helping older people feel safe, respected and valued.
