The sound of the wind gives you an idea of how bitterly cold it was on Tuesday night when we got to see STEVE again!

Remember Steve? He appeared a couple of week ago at the colony and he is very big and equally handsome. He's being elusive but we've been working to get him to eat in one spot and start a routine with the intention of trapping him.

We pray he will have a microchip, and someone is missing him but sadly, this is a rare occurrence.

More than likely this young male will not be desexed, and he has, what are colloquially referred to as, "trouble puffs" the size of oranges!

Once we catch him, we will then get the vet work done with the hope that someone will be willing to foster him until we find him a home. This is going to be tough because he is your average tabby and getting a foster carer is one hurdle. Getting a forever home will be his miracle.

There is truly a crisis with the numbers of cats being dumped and often pregnant or with kittens.

It's getting worse, not better. The need and demand for change hasn't been greater.

So again, we ask you to please sign and share the plea from every volunteer who does puts themselves out there, even in the middle of the night, in the freezing cold with cats like Steve and help us try to make the change.

THEIR LIVES DEPEND ON IT

This is the gorgeous, Stumpy. You can't see it, but her tail is a bit shorter than the average cat and she does stand a little closer to the ground. She is approximately 9 years of age now.

We feel very fortunate because one of our youngest colony feeders, who is 15 years old, is also a talented artist. She has done an incredibly beautiful and accurate sketch of Stumpy. It captures her perfectly.

Educating children about the responsibility of pet ownership is vital to changing the future lives of rescue animals.

This young girl and her sister have been accompanying their mother for many years. They have been with her when she has rescued, fed and cared for many cats in colonies. It has encouraged them to want to help more and make a difference too.

Her mother said it is her 'passionate project' to help us help the cats and we are feeling very special that our work has inspired her.

They have kindly, at their own expense, had some merchandising made and the artwork has been designed by her daughter in honour of the cats at our colonies and the work we do.

So, stay-tuned. We will have merch to purch on display and all money received will go to our charity.

HELP US HELP THEM

We need as many people to sign this petition as possible to help us continue to not only do our volunteer work, but get assistance and provide more humane strategies to help deal with the domestic stray cats and kittens trying to survive on our streets.

Please sign and share with as many people as you can. Their lives depend on it.

ORIGINAL PETITION

We seek successful One Welfare solutions for better outcomes for community cats, and their rescuers and carers being integrated with the initiatives by New South Wales (NSW) state and local government for humane and best practice cat management.

These initiatives include strategies, plans, delivery of desexing programs, research, and critical education programs with communities for these solutions to benefit cats and reduce impacts to wildlife.

A rally was held in Sydney in relation to this petition and initiatives - please refer to the new webpage to view videos and information on this event.

Thousands of kind-hearted public members and cat rescuers / carers provide food, medical assistance, desexing, rehoming etc for abandoned cats in urban areas. There is a very strong and tender emotional bond between people and these cats. Every year, collectively across NSW, many thousands of cats are helped to find new caring families.

This is Matty Mattress. His name was acquired due to the fact he was always hiding behind a pile of dumped mattresses and we rarely saw his face. He would always peek out and was so damn hard to trap.😚

Some may say he has a face only a mother could love but his hard-knock life appearance is what makes him endearing to us.πŸ’™

Matty has had various health issues over the past 8 years!!! That's how long he's been around so he is probably 9 this year.

He has been in our care on at least three occasions and he is currently with us because he has what appears to be a bite/puncture in his lower back (photo not shown) but as you will see in the last pic, he is keen to lounge about in a carrier being waited on by the amazing carer who currently is nursing two cats from the colony.

Do not let that last pic fool you. He wants to go home and be with his mate Fuzzy who will be wondering where his brother in arms is. They sometimes squabble but are rarely not together so we know it's where he is happy to spend his days and we're always going to be there to care for him.

These are some of the faces of the vulnerable homeless stray cats that are part of lives and hearts. The last cat in this slideshow is Lucy who is now in a loving home but don't panic, that is her yawningπŸ₯°

Cat colonies exist all over Sydney. They are there because of humans and the least we can do is try to help them and prevent them from suffering more than they need to.

Once you come across a cat in need it is hard to ignore. Working in rescue is tough and it is not without heartache, but the highs far outweight the lows.
We'd like to thank the ongoing support from ALDI & PETSTOCK at Broadway for their generosity and kindness.

Due to the amateur social media skills, this post was accidentally deleted so here it is again.

In order of snuggle appearance, Mini Archie, Bruce and Wednesday. Thursday night was freezing for everyone feeding colonies all over Sydney. These cats are lucky that we are permitted to put shelters for them at the site.

It's not easy surviving on the streets for any cat and we cherish moments like these.

This is Maisie. She was found on the streets late last year and in need of some TLC. She had been abandoned and was oblivious to how dire her situation was. She appeared to be enjoying running across roads chasing rats!πŸ™ƒ

Maisie is approx 16 months old and has certainly blossomed into a very fluffy, funny and loving girl.

It demonstrates tough when a cat like this is still waiting adoption, but it's through our network that we work to ensure that we find the best and most suitable home cats in our care.

It would not have been possible to be able to have taken Maisie in if we didn't have the generosity of foster carers. Maisie has been thriving because of their commitment and big hearts. It's a selfless act to foster and we are always so grateful to those that do.

These videos show how much she has changed from when we first got her. She as become such a floofy ball of joy.

Please help us find her a home and share this post or the link below to more information about her adoption or maybe she is the right cat for you πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Fuzzy Wuzzy, the oldest cat at the colony at at least 9 years of age!

Since we began working at this colony, a constant has always been Fuzzy. He has really been through some tough times and had to be treated for various health issues. We've had to crate care him on at least three occasions but as you can see, he is still being fussed over.

One of Fuzzy's health issues is stomatitis, a condition that inflames all areas of the mouth, gums and throat. It is very painful in cats and as Fuzzy had many teeth that needed removing so we took them all out as that can help prevent a flare up of the condition. He is also given meds that need to be hidden in fresh meat in a little bowl with some milk.

Sometimes Fuzzy, like all cats, can be a nightmare to tablet so he has been known to keep us waiting but once done, he is treated to a big plate of meat and a bowl of milk just for him. We ensure he is eating as much as possible.

When his tummy is full he always goes and snuggles up somewhere in the sun or in a cosy shelter provided. We are as content as he looks when we leave after seeing him again.

It takes a village to care for a colony of cats.

We rely on the kindness and commitment of volunteers who care for the cats, taking time out of their own busy work and personal lives.

We rely on monetary and food donations for us to continue our work, feeding and taking care of the cats in our care and at the sites.

One of the biggest contributors of support comes from the amazing team at ARC, a national volunteer network providing food, medical supplies, emergency support and community care where it’s needed most.

You can find out more about them and see if you can get involved.
They have many opportunities to help support their cause, which in turn supports charities like us https://arc.org.au/o/arcsydney

When we hear from ARC advising us there is a bundle of goodies waiting to be collected, we are elated. This makes a big difference and goes a long way.

As you can, one of our volunteers went incognito on this occasion.

Feeding colony cats isn't just about emptying some cans and throwing some biscuits down. It's much more than that.

We ensure that all the bowls are soaked and cleaned with fresh water, wet/dry food replenished and time spent bonding with the cats.

Getting the cats used to the feeders is crucial as it enables us to see if there's any health issues that require medical attention. Creating the bond is rewarding for us and for them. Their health is better when they are not in fear.

This is the majestic, John Snow. He was only ever admired from distance but now comes to be hand fed and we can tell him how handsome he is up closeπŸ₯°
