While much of the world’s focus has been on Gaza, Israel has also been escalating its efforts to dismantle Palestinian life in the West Bank.

Next week on Wednesday 14 October we have the privilege of hosting a lunchtime webinar with leading Israeli human rights group B'Tselem about their new report that documents this in detail: The Elimination Project.

Jewish Council advisory member Antony Loewenstein will be interviewing key representatives from B’Tselem on what they uncovered during their extensive research into what is unfolding in the West Bank.

The Elimination Project draws on more than 2,000 testimonies B’Tselem collected from Palestinians since October 2023 and over three decades of documenting the Israeli apartheid regime’s human rights abuses in the West Bank.

Next weekend we’re collaborating with Madman films for special preview screenings of NAZA – the film produced by the team behind the Zone of Interest and directed by Oscar-winning film-makers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.

Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, NAZA includes testimony from 24 Israeli military insiders and reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

Since its release, Netanyahu has threatened to strip the directors of their citizenship and cinemas in Israel are refusing to screen it. This only goes to show just how critical it is that the film reach a wide audience.

Jewish Council Advisory Member Antony Loewenstein will be speaking at the Sydney show , and our Executive Director Sarah Schwartz will be speaking in Melbourne. There are also screenings in other states and territories.

Wow - we’re blown away by the response to our Molly Crabapple tour announcement. Tickets are flying out the door!

At a time when Jewish identity is so often presented as synonymous with Israel and Zionism, the story of the Bund offers another Jewish political inheritance: one of resistance to nationalism and racism, collective struggle, and an understanding that Jewish freedom is bound up with the freedom of others.

This November, we’re thrilled to be bringing New York Times bestselling author, artist and journalist Molly Crabapple to Australia for four events in Sydney and Melbourne spanning politics, history, art, music, food and community – fresh off the release of her latest book.

“Here Where We Live is Our Country” tells the extraordinary history of the Jewish Labour Bund from 1897-1945 — a mass Jewish socialist movement that fought antisemitism, nationalism, Zionism and fascism, built unions, schools, cultural institutions and organised workers across Eastern Europe.

Earlier this month a Deepcut news investigation offered a peek behind the curtain at how some institutions are caving to pressure to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, a definition that dangerously conflates Jewish identity with the State of Israel.
