Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia affecting around 29,000 men in 2025 - and their families. Yet it’s still taboo to talk about getting tested.

The focus needs to shift to prevention and proactive healthcare. The Federal Government needs to invest in a nationwide screening program and greater education across the country about the risks of prostate cancer.

As through the Special Commission of Inquiry into Healthcare Funding, we’ve been advocating for more investment in helping people understand what a healthy lifestyle looks like and access care earlier. Giving people that opportunity means better outcomes for individuals and less pressure on our health system over time.

Don’t wait before it’s too late to get tested. The more openly we talk about prostate cancer, the more lives that can be saved.

Yesterday HSU Assistant Secretary Lauren Hutchins celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Workplace Gender Equality Agency alongside the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.

Gender equality is Union business. It’s about ensuring every worker has the same opportunities - not at the expense of others but through rising together. The work of WGEA has been instrumental in highlighting the progress we’ve made and the work still to be done.

Like unions, WGEA holds employers accountable. It makes employers identify systemic discrimination in the workplace and potential barriers to equal opportunity among their workers. Happy 40th!

HSU members stand in solidarity with everyone affected by this catastrophe.

HSU members continue to come together across NSW to call on Treasurer Daniel Mookhey to fund the outcome of Allied Health Award Reform. Westmead Hospital health professionals gathered in numbers to ensure this message is delivered loud and clear.

There was rain. There was chilling wind. There was sunshine. And Allied Health members at Royal North Shore Hospital showed up through it all! ☔️☀️🌈

This week, over 100 Allied Health members took part in telling the NSW Government one thing: fund the outcome of Allied Health Award Reform in full.

Allied Health professionals have spent years building one of the most impactful and strong cases to push and fight for an Award that recognises their work. Now it’s time for the NSW Government to do their part, and back Allied Health workers.
